Topic: Any interest in running a Bronco D20?

In searching for a used case for my D20 I found a guy that has 3 EB D20's. I don't have alot of info yet but it sounds like they are complete cases. Not sure if they are the T- shift or J shift. Mine is a T shift which has the lower gearing. Anyway he wants IIRC $50.00 each. These are a small T-case at 10 inches from mounting surface to middle of the output yoke on the rear. They are pretty heavy at around 80# so shipping might be costly. Just thought I would thow it out there. I might pick up one if it's the right case. Can't go wrong for $50.

it doesnt have a slip yoke,correct?

No slip yokes they are a fixed yoke like a D300 or Atlas. They can also be twin sticked.

I was looking into it at one point trying to get around expensive sye kits. But eventually settled on a used sye for $160. The 20 is gear driven too stronger than chain.

I am not sure on the spline count. It might be only a 10 spline.

I have not done alot of reasearch on who makes adapters. I needed a adapter to get the Klune to mate up to the D20. I know my Klune has a 21 spline input for the AX5 and a 23 spline output for the D20 adapter. But there is a spud shaft that goes between the Klune and the D20 the Klune end has 23 splines and I am not sure on the D20 end.
They are a nice T-case but they do lack gearing. They come either 2.46 for the T shift and only 2.34 for the J shift. There is some aftermarket gears for them Tera has some 3:15 gears and O'brien has some 4:1 and 4:86 gears but his are very expensive!

if it's 23 spline so is AX-15 or NV3550 - not sure of the bolt patter, D300 will bolt to the AX15 or to the NV3550 with little mods (2 holes have to be elongated) - if the D20 has the same pattern could work, not sure on the sealing around the shaft or input bearing housing but i'm assuming since your k-lune worked that could be ok since was probably meant to mate with the np231 (so extrapolating here i would assume that the D20 could be fitted to an AX15). the NV3550 should be a better option since it seals on the output shaft (i think the AX15 uses the np231 input to seal, for sure that is the case with the AX5).

Too bad no one makes a kit to bolt the D20 to the AX-5.  I would guess at most it would require a 1" spacer and a spud shaft.

My adapter is about an inch. It's a NV4500-D300? adapter from AA. It is a shame that there is not a big enough demand for the AX5- D20 adapter. But you could always add a Klune

The NP435 (Ford) or T18 would be a nice set up if you didn't need 5th gear.

Novak makes a AX5- D300 adapter, they might have a flip kit for the D300 too.

A D300 would be cool but having to flip it is just an additional cost which isn't cool.  I think I'll eventually go with an Atlas 4 when the time comes.  I think my chain is what's making noise at higher seeds since it wasn't really designed to be spinning at 65-70MPH.  Gotta drop the front shaft and see if it quiets up.

I think I'd rather run a Ford D20 then a D300 with a flip though.

The 4 speed was not around when I did all this. If it was I think I would go that route VS the Klune-D20. But I wish they had the 4.3/2.7 4 speed.
The only way I could afford to do the whole thing was by buying what I could afford and gathering the parts little by little. With the 4 speed it's a pretty big pill to swallow all at once, plus D-shafts.

Both the D300 and D20 are nice cases. Their biggest weak link is the output shaft strength, but with the motors we run I don't think it's a problem. Most of the stories I have heard is the V8 crowd with leadfoot driving styles. I don't miss the chain.
My buddy with the Klune-231 has not had any trouble with his. I don't think he is running the wide chain. But his is a trailer queen, with not alot of street miles. That is still not a bad option either.

Depending on which case you have. The 66-72 (Tshift) have 2.46:1 the 73-77 (Jshift) has 2.34:1 all the D300's came with 2.62:1 So ya they are geared higher.
