i think 6'' will be a bit much (maybe if you add spacers on the hubs) - there are some called extend a flare, although i never seen one bushwacker suggested it when i bought mine and they said they're cheaper, something to look at maybe.

How far the tires stick out depends on the wheel backspacing having a wider stance makes it a lot more stable when of camber, I had 6" flares front and back and the tires would tuck under it when flexing, no issues with rubbing on the frame either for me wheels with about 3.5" backspacing and 6" flares make a nice combo

The stock flares are 3 3/4" so the 4" will add a 1/4". Plus the 4" will be less prone to hitting stuff on the trail right? That's good right?

i have 3.75  and 15x10 rims so in that case i take back what i said about 6'' being too much - mine are 6'' flares and the edge of the tire sticks out about 3/4 inch and like aw said it tucks under when flexing.

A 3.75" BS on a 10" wheel is a -1.25" Offset.  With an 8" wheel, you're only looking at -.25" Offset.  For comparison the stock wheels are +2 which really brings the tires in.  What does that all mean?  Well, with a 12.5" tire you're going to have to run 6" flares to cover the tires.  If you run 4" flares and stuff your tires, you're going to hog out a arch from them contacting the flare.

Well I already orderd the 4" flares so we'll see what happens. I can always buy the 6" if these dont work out.

I have a 2" spacer and rubicon springs from an 06' rubi.

Ya if after I put my 3" springs on and they still rub the frame I will do the steering adjustment that Jeff has in the FAQ section. If need be but I dont really want to I will do a 1" body lift after I take it wheeling if it looks like I'll need it.

I dont want to trim the old flares, so i'm just buying the 4" flat Xenon flares. My old tires stuck out a little less than my new ones and I never had any issues with the Fuzz! If get a fix it ticket Rugged Ridge sells some 7" flares for $150 for a set that I can throw on to show the cops.

There isnt alot of mud in SoCal, but I have gone threw water and had it flung at my face and that does suck!

Reason for my paranoia.... :)
Oregon no longer allows fixit tickets, if we get busted we pay the fine AND have to
show we fixed the problem or they issue a bench warrant.

All fixit tickets here are 200 bucks.

Utah also goes rabid on this on a regular basis. a few years ago the Utah State patrol
guys were on both highways out of MOAB writing people up.

And on the side, ALL 7 western state have signed a co-prosecution agreement so
there is no escape from the tickets.

I never want ot give joe-county cop a free excuse, too many ways they can mess
you over if they are below their quota.

will your tires rub your flares as you flex on the trail? this is the only thing im worried about in my plan to go up to 32s..my 2.5" RC lift is apparently made for 32s..but im afraid ill rub the flares. im looking at your size and you say you have a 2" lift..wondering if your having issues when you flex

You can always get wider flares so the tires tuck under, the biggest thing to worry about on a TJ is the metal lip on the front fender where the flare mounts the tire tends to rub on that bend it and then bow the fender about in the middle is pretty common on TJ's that get wheeled quite a bit. You can also trim the flares basically cut a good chunk of the lip off

if he wants to keep his wide stance look, then a body lift would prob be the only way to allow the tire to clear the flare. if you didnt want to use a body lift, would there be a way to limit the upwards travel of the wheel without limiting the downward travel?

The cheap way to extend the bumpstops is to bolt either a hockey puck to the hump on top of the axle inside of the spring or unbolt the top part that holds the rubber stopper/bumpstop then slipp about 1/2" of washers over the bolt that secures the metal cup that holds the rubber stopper bolt it back in and you are done the latter one you can do without removing the spring

Stan I wouldn't worry to much about your stock flares rubbing. Those things are pretty strong and will bounce back. My 31's used to rub on them and I never had an issue with breaking or cracking (not to say it cant happen).

Use zip ties to attach your flares and just cut them off when you hit trail and zip em back up before you hit the road

When I bought my YJ it came with 31's and no lift, and the flares had arches on them where the tires would rub.  Never broke one, though...
