Topic: D30 Inner axle seals

I need to replace the inner seals on the D30 and I got the axle shafts pulled out, and the gears taken out of the housing, but how do I go about pressing them back in??? All the equipment I have worked I have always been able to get to seal where i can use a socket or driver to tap it back in and  I dont have enough room to do that with these. So if anybody has experience or tips I would appreciate it

Piece of all thread, two or three hardened washers of the appropriate size, and 3 nuts.
The all thread goes where the third member would go,
by turning the nuts you make the washer push outwards against the seals pushing them in place.
I managed to get mine to both seat in one try... <never happen again....>

Alright I will have to give that a try tomorrow, I was just going to let the stealership do it until they told me it was going to be almost $400  and I said never mind

I use a bunch of long extensions and a second person. Go through the opposite side and one person tap them with a hammer and the other to line it up to the seal. Seems to seat them better than the homemade tool from my experience.

I hammer on a long steel rod with my seal driver taped to the end.

Usually a 2-person job for me, one to line up the seal driver on the seal inside the diff and the other to tap a long dowel through the opposite side of the axle housing, striking the seal driver.

The all-thread would likely work too, making it a 1-person job.

Alright I got the seal on the drivers side replaced, but the passanger side isnt the same size    Does anybody have a part number or link for the passanger side seal so i dont have gear fluid pouring out my axle anymore

Passenger side could be one of 3 different sizes - I'm assuming you have a one piece shaft in there?  Best bet is to take the number off the old one.

I got a two piece at the moment, I would take the numbers off the old seal butttt its not in there  I didnt have any metal shavings or chunks in the oil when i drained it, so i dont know where it went

Edit: Napa has two part numbers for me that I ordered hopefully its one of those, I should have them in tomorrow

There's no inner seal in the passenger side of the diff from the factory and you don't need one if you are running the stock 2 piece axle.  The passenger side seal is in the disconnect "box"

There are at least 3 different sized seals and which one you need depends on the ID of your passenger tube where the seal would go.  Some are machined a couple different ways and some are just an un machined tube.

Alright, I will get some measurments on the tube and the axle shaft and just have them find me one that meets my specs, thanks for the help
