Topic: Ugh, cat took a dump...

Well half of it did.  I got a rattle in the last few days and it was annoying as it was under the passenger floor.  I was hoping it was the heat shield or a loose bolt but it was the front honeycomb in the cat.  So I ended up taking teh easy way out and dropping the cat and dumping the bits into... a container.  Now it doesn't rattle!  I'm wondering if there is enough of the matrix to still work 100%.  I have to deal with SMOG next year but I've got several months still.  Might have to buy a new cat.

Oh yeah, it rained pretty hard last week and it didn't leak so I think I fixed it.  There is something else I need to check still but I'll leave the barrier in for now.

This brings up a question for me, how does a hollowed cat compare to a high flow?  I'm in Missouri, so I don't have to worry about the sniffer.  The only inspection is visually that it is installed, gotta love the loop holes.

I don't have sniff test hear also. they only do it in southern Ontario.  a cat is just takes the exhaust fumes and cause a chemical reaction to turn the fumes in to less toxic gasses and a bit of water or steam.

I know people have and do it around here just hollow it out but it is illegal to do that here and you would pay if they found out you hollowed it out but they would have to prove it some how.

Well, I know if you don't run a cat your exhaust will start to smell bad.  A 49 state legal hi-flow bolt-on car is only $90 so I don't really see any reason not to run without one.  I think I've lose some low-end torque as there is less media in the cat.

I have to check what model cat I have since Magnaflow sells two models.  One is for CA which is $200 while the other is only $90.  I think I have the non CA since I bought it years ago before Magnaflow started selling cats instead of selling them under Car-sound.

ya the MTO do random checks here to even up north just to check for them so you have have one in place and ya it's not really worth it anyways for the most part.  and the tj's have post o2 sensors to that flag a constant engine light witch sucks for the obd2 vehicles

You can rig up the wires so the lights turn off but I still recommend running one then not.

IIRC, you jump he leds and add a resister to simulate what the O2 sensor would normally do.
