squeeking brakes - intermittent
« on: January 06, 2010, 06:14:31 AM »
Hey guys, i have had squeeking brakes (intermittent) for about 2 years.  Front pads redone about 9 months ago, I did the rear drum shoes last week, no change in the intermittent squeek/squeal.  What should I check next?

if your brakes are ok (calipers, sliders, brake pads) this can happen if the pads are not good quality or if small pieces of rocks make it between the pads and the disks (like really tiny bits that can fit in there)  - would go away after a while in this case. So if you offroad  often on dusty roads that can be the cause in which case there's not much you can do, in the first case get a good quality set of pads.

cheep metallic pads will squeak.

Please update bestos.  My fronts squeak as well and I'm not sure where to apply the anti squeak lube.  Pics would be great.

usually you lube on the metal part of the pads that rides on part of the caliper (the pad will slide back and forth along them.) should be more obvious when you look at them or if someone posts pictures.

Yeah, you don't want to apply lube to the breaking surface.

Squeaking can also be caused by not having your rotors turned so the new pads don't match up and don't grip properly.
