ok this may sound odd but has any of you done the cummins 4cyl swap yet? i have been thinking bout for the last few months. if anyine has any tips that could help please pass them on this will be for my yj which i am getting ready to swap the axles to d44 front and d60 rear with 5.16 gears.

Considering the engine weighs 900lbs, I don't think it's really a good candidate for a diesel swap.  Some people have done it though.  Not that much to it since the engine doesn't need much to run on it's own.  Just have to mate a transmission like a NV4500,TH400 or 4L80E.  I would consider a D60 front as well.  I believe your best bet is to get one from a mid to late 80's Lay's P30 truck.  There were the only tucks to use them, otherwise, you're going to be using one from some generator or pump.

I'd also really look at gearing.  They produce a lot of torque BUT have a really narrow powerband. You can not rev them high.  5.16's might be too low unless you don't plan on driving on the street.

not that any of them are "light" but there are at least 3 different 4banger cummins;

"engine is a 2.3L, weighing in at 450 lbs... A cummins B3.3 weighs in at 600 lbs, which is what some recent guys have been using. And the 3.9L is the heavier one"

The 4 popper cummins is to heavy and big for the amount of power it produces.
There are better engines out there for a diesel swap a 6BT would be a much better choice

6BT is not only going to be heavy it's going to be long.  The perfect engine would be a IH HS2.8L.  Only problem is availability and it not being DOT/EPA certified.

i already have a 4bt cummins sitting around with an ats turbo kit on it the reason for the 5.16 gears is cause of tire size

42 boggers rear tsl front i was going to try to find a set of 49 iroks but i didnt like how wide they looked mounted

April 2010 4WD&SU has a Early bronco with a 4BT. Pretty freaking SWEET!
P7100 fuel pump,intercooled intake,56PSI turbo boost, everything was B&B and it will spin up to 4500RPM with minimal noise and vibes. Gets 25 MPG if he keeps the RPM's around 2K. EST 400 HP at the crank! It has so much TQ he went thru 3 clutches on the NV4500. He swapped in a Sun Coast 4R100 auto. Says he could only use a car bellhousing due to clearance problems so the clutch disk was only 10 inches.

axles out of my j20 i had which are d44 front d60 rear they are almost same width as the d30 n d35. the d44 n d60 are already have after market shafts in them front has usa alloy axles n tube seals and rear gas moser axles in them with rear disc

I'd love to do the BT4! I think with the proper set up on the motor and proper gearing in the axles it would be a real nice setup. Granted there are prolly better diesel motors out there but all in all it would be a nice setup IMO.

There are a number of video's on youtube with YJ,CJ TJ and Scouts with them. Not sure of there overall set up but they seem to work well.
