New sixty9 axle

I saw this on  :pirate:. It looks pretty cool! You can have a HP or a LP D60 using this center section. Ruff Stuff is going to be making the housings.
Not sure I would need this much bling but dang...pretty outta the box thinking IMO.

so is this using the 9 inch 3rd member in a dana 60? isn't that backwords since 9" has more power lose in the carrier than the dana 60? im no expert on axles so call my bluff if im wrong.

It will use D60 gears. They were originally gonna put it into a 9 inch housing. But they need to fab a new housing to fit the 10.5 inch ring gear. Everything will be brand new. I am curious how it will turn out. To my knowledge they don't have one assembled yet.

Dumb name for it since it's got nothing at all to do with a 9" axle.  Basically it's a drop out 3rd that uses D60 gears and a totally custom housing.  I don't get the appeal personally - proprietary everything but gears and lockers.  You can already get some massively beefy 9" stuff which uses standard parts.

the 609 axle has been out for a while 60 outers on a 9 inch housing they even have steering ones

That's not what this is.  This is a 3rd member that uses D60 gear sets and a custom housing.

Well, I doubt it's going to revolutionize anything.  It's going to be expensive.  More expensive then a D60 which means the majority of people aren't going to buy it.

I think the setup is pretty cool as far as making it all work. But I would agree that not many would be able to afford them. Any D60 is already very expensive so that set up would be over the top as far as money.

For today's offroad racing activity, lighter and stronger is where it is at. Look at all the positive responses they are getting. Yah, it will be a very small market arena. Innovation to say the least. The design flaws will come quickly. The applications could be enormous. Sizes and dimensions, customization and use of yard-pulled hardware will all come about. For now, it's to a specific market.

Look at cell phones. They started off in the early-mid 90s as big as shoe boxes and had a shoulder harness just to carry the weight. It was basically a wire-less basic phone. Now, look at the capabilities of your cell phone today. Look at the bushing for your suspension. Look where they have gone today and at what costs.

It does look interesting, it looks usable, it looks to be meeting a market out there. There was a lot of similar talk when Jeep (AMC) went from a CJ platform to a YJ platform......

This will allow a lot of fab shops to make D60 housings, like what is happening with the 9" currently.  From reading on the internet is seems the D60s are getting hard to find, so this will create some options for those who want massive axles.

Don't see where it will be noticeably lighter than a Stock Dana 60 axle just more flexible and hopefully readably available.  Dynatrax and Currie had a pretty good handle on the new axle market for these things. Will be interesting what he comes up with for an axle housing and if he uses screw type adjusters for the carrier or at-least outboard shims
I guess the3 big thing is that its a easily removable third member like the Toyota and Ford 9" variations. For nice front axle housings Spidertraxs makes some pretty nice housings with strong knuckles and shafts would be nice to pair something like that with a Dana 60 third member

I don't think those ultra fancy 9's are that prevalent either though.  9" shops are still fairly common since they are used in stock cars and other racers  but then you got a bunch of hybrids which are a really small percentage.
