Topic: Yella Terra Roller Rockers

Has anyone out there put roller rockers on their 4 banger?  I saw them in a catalog I was browsing and wondered if they are worth the 380 bucks they cost.  Just wondering.

I would like to have rollers in mine, much quieter and adds a pony or two from what I've read. Just can't get past the cost.

I run them; have not noticed any difference, but they SHOULD (1) ad a pony or two as mentioned, and (2) help reduce (just a tad) engine heat (less friction).  The butt dyno, though, has not picked out any differences...  I guess it's a good addition to all the other mods (ignition, high flow filter, cat and cat back, more aggressive cam, 62mm TB, eFan, etc.).  Not sure if I would buy them again, though.

Could be; but I did it at the same time I changed the cat, the cat back, the 62mm TB and a bunch of other stuff that made the Jeep louder, so I cannot really tell...  There is still valvetrain noise in mine (sounds a bit like a diesel), but I think this has to do more with the broken exhaust manifold stuc (the last one) than anything else...

Probably needs a study, but I wouldn't be surprised if modern synthetic motor oils, w/their high film strength vs regular motor oil, do a decent job of reducing friction on the valve-train even without roller-rockers.  I'd still want a set for my 4banger though.

Mine are 1.6 with rollers, but I do have a more aggressive cam (.450 lift 256 duration Mopar High Performance camshaft), so I would not want to go any higher anyway.  Getting 1.7 ones would be equivalent to a more aggressive cam without having to actually swap the cam.

If all you want is quieter, it seems like converting the stock arms to an adjustable stud type mount would help a lot.  Then you could actually get the valvetrain adjusted correctly and take all the slop out.

No kit that I'm aware of, but there's no reason it couldn't be done.  Replace bolt with stud and use chevy style stover nuts.  Might be able to use parts off a 3.0L mercruiser, which is what gave me the idea.  When my boat starts to sound like my jeep I know it's time for a rocker adjustment

My boat has hydraulic lifters as does pretty much every older chevy motor I've worked on and they all have adjustable rockers.  You can only take so much slop out with a lifter.

If you could find some the right size.  Problem is adjusting them is a pain.  With an adjust able rocker you just remove the valve cover, fire it up and adjust until the rattle goes away or the valve starts floating.
