That is why Montana was AWESOME when they had no speed limit.  I lived in ND close by there are would drag race my mustang there.  Here in NV if you go over 80 they can get you for attempted suicide or worse yet if someone is in the car attempted manslaughter.  Stupid law

something similar, I took my old supervisor for a ride in my old 91 escort gt (he kept saying it wasnt fast)hit on ramp onto I-5 south(portland OR) and let her go, didnt see a cop shooting radar and was pulled over a few exits down, cop said " I clocked you at 121 and excelerating, and I have never seen an escort accelerate like that" . Wrote me for 80 in a 65 which was cool, didnt lose too many coins
I got hit there on I-5 from Ft. Lewis coming to NV and it was about the same speed ticket and it was $265.00

When I lived in that area 7-8 yrs ago, those Ft.Lewis area cops were complete jackoffs , I used to go on base and "hang out",they were always waiting to pull someone over

My wife has an '06 Dodge pick up with the 5.7 liter hemi. Whenever I drive it I use the cruise control even in town. If I don't I wind up well over the speed limit. I guess it it the beauty of a 4 cylinder, it is hard to speed most places.

I personally think the vehicles we use in the U.S. are way out of line with the speed limits we have.  Or maybe its the other way around -- the speed limits are way out of line with the vehicles we have here.

Of course, it doesn't cost US folks $2000 and considerable training to get a drivers license like it apparently does in Germany.   We did that here and retail commerce would probably fall off.

Practically any sedan you buy today, foreign or domestic, will drive/comfortably-cruise in to the 3 digits unless it has a limiter.

All the German makes -- porsche, bmw, volkswagon, audi -- are built for autobahn driving.  Japanese  makes compete in most markets with the Germans makes, so the Japanese makes are often just as fast and as well-built.  And of course, the U.S. makes want to bring across the same build quality and performance as the German and Japanese makes -- and they've actually started to do that in the last 20 years with many models.

If you took that Z4 and did 120mph/200kph in Germany, you'd just be "commuting to work"  Do that here and they have you sit in jail. I think it's all pretty silly.

well, i got fined 250 Euro in Austria for driving 190kph (120 mph) just after crossing the border from Germany and i had a TV crew with a camera and a microphone on me  - they did asked for permission to use ask me a few questions and use the footage for teh local TV station - the speed limit in Austria was 130kph (something like 80mph) and is similar around Europe except for Germany.

so it's not just in the US. On the other hand in BC, Canada the speed limit is even less, highway is 56mph (90 kph) unless otherwise posted, some places is 100kph (62mph) and the highest i've seen is 110kph (close to 70mph) - so we're even worse. I do find these limits retarded especially that nobody drives that slow on the highway, they can throw a radar anywhere and they'll increase the city revenue considerably.

Yup, even the Autobahn has a speed limit.  Generally speaking though, they ARE better drivers then those in the US.  Not to mention Europe in general has better laws like no undertaking and slow traffic must stay right.  Both if these would make the highways in the US much more efficient.  Instead we get the lone Prius trying to get every last MPG in the fast lane.

The other nice thing about some places in Europe, is that you can pay the officer on the spot instead of having to deal with all of the bureaucracy.  Not a bribe but actually paying your fees on the spot.

Wreckless in colorado was twice the limit back in 93. I was clocked doing 108 in a 55. Intoxicated. Roadsided me 3times but I passed thank god no breathaliser. The mustang owner was puking out the passenger window. Let me drive back on base with a pocket full of tickets then had to sweat the mps following me all the way back to the barracks

Panama has the same speed limits as BC.  Costa Rica, thgouh, is even worse; the highest I have seen is 100KPH (62mph).

You can do that here in Costa Rica and Panama as well...  You are not EXACTLY paying the government, though...

So was it was a Class B misdemeanor.  From what I understand it could have been 6 months in jail and fines up to $500.  The arrest might become an issue when/if looking for a job.

One morning a few weeks back, my wife started feeling ill when she was taking the kids to school. She was trying to get back home as quick as she could - got popped for 90 in a 65 driving her CLS. The trooper had no mercy and went to his car to write the ticket. As he was walking up to hand her the ticket, she threw the door open and puked all over the pavement. She thinks some even got on his shoes! The cop tore up the ticket, went back to his cruiser and drove off without saying a word!
No matter where you're going, there you are.

Yea, if i even get a traffic ticket or in any trouble within the next two years, all this comes back and i could get thrown in jail. But if i dont get into any trouble, it gets exponged after two years. The cop told me if i hadnt slowed down that he couldnt have caught me. I shoulda kept bookin it till the next exit, but i didnt even know i got clocked
