Want to use OEM motor mounts!
« on: May 07, 2010, 04:43:19 PM »
Thanks again for all the other help!!               I was Looking at my jeep after the diff oil change.  I found that the drivers side motor mount was bad, (cracked all the way through.  I put a block on the jack and jacked up the motor a little and the motor mount is done!  I've done some reading on here and i think i want to replace with OEM mounts.  I drive mostly on pavement and do some dirt road hunting trips with it!  The jeep is completely stock except for 31" M/T's  Has a 2.5 engine!  I would like to use OEM because of the vibration that would come from aftermarket ones.   Is there a mount that would feel and ride just like the OEM?    1 month ago i put a new trans. aftermarket mount and i hated it, so i ordered a OEM replacement and stuck that one on.  MUCH BETTER!

Honestly, no.  Stick with OEM's.  They are cheap and don't' transmit vibrations.  $35 for a complete set Engine and transmission mounts are cheap.

Jeffy,   Thanks for the input!  I guess there are two ways to go about this. Order straight from JEEP-  $54.00 for the left and $98.00 for the right!!   That's crazy money!    I could order what the call a direct replacement ones, witch are not OEM but aftermarket companies. I found a lot of them on the web but not shur i want to go this rout. I've read on here that they are weak and the material used has got a lot of plastic in the rubber mount!    Not sure of this though,  What do you think?     Any input would be greatly appreciated!     Thanks,    James...

I found on here that Brown Dog Offroad makes a pretty nice mount for my yj.    A couple of questions that have probably already been answered, but could not really find the answer.   On the right side mount it has a 1/2" shim, If i use the Brown Dog Offroad ones, would i still use the 1/2" shim?       Also, would you guy's recomend using the Ultra-Flex rubber or the Classic Polyurethane one's?    Also, Are the B.D.Offroad ones a direct bolt on or does there need to be modifications to fit correctly?     Thanks Guy's,    James...

you might want to send them an email, it's a long shot that anyone used them here but you never know.

The rubber ones are the OEM like, the Poly ones are the harder compound that would transmit more vibrations, depends on what you want but i thought you were looking for OEM like so that would be the Ultra-Flex

What part are you talking about?  The mounts themselves or the rubber mounts that attach to the engine?  The rubber mounts can be found cheaper online, depending on what Jeep you have.

For the mounts on the engine, I'd probably go with Brown dog but I'd still probably use the stock rubber mounts.  No aftermarket mount seems to stop engine vibrations like the OE mounts.  The downside is that they won't last as long then then again, if comfort is what you're looking for then it's the way to go.  Otherwise, just get the poly mounts and live with the vibrations.  Although you may find other things breaking because of it, like I did.

Jeffy,   I'm talking about the Motor mounts that bolt on to the frame and are rubber isolated!    My jeep is a 95 YJ and it's  pretty much all stock with a 2.5.  I went to Napa Auto and looked up the mounts. It seems that you can only get the rubber mounts and not the shim that is under the right side. NO Big deal!  From the picture at Napa. It looks like the right mount is taller and maybe takes up the height of the shim, ( If that makes any sense) . The cost is $51.00 for both sides.   I think your right about what type to use. I will be going with the stock mounts for the vibration and the problems that the poly could make down the road!  Really Appreciate the help!   Thanks,   James....   I also want to say that the 1/2" shim on the right side is not broken in any way. I will reuse it!      Thanks again.  James...

Well, if you shopped around you could of had BOTH engine mounts as well as the transmission mount for $35.  I'd go ahead and get the spacer from the dealer, if they still have them.  The revision is quite strong.

BTW: I've run Currie 1" MM, TD Performance 1" MM and now run stock mounts on JKS Budget Boosts.  For a street vehicle the stock mounts are better.  You'll get a lot more engine torque movement but then you're not shaking when it's idling.  I also attribute my broken exhaust hangers because of the shaking as well.

Even with stock mounts from NAPA you run the risk of vibration.
It seems all the aftermarket that I have tried had a much higher durometer,
(harder rubber), than the factory Jeep ones.
For light wheeling they will last along time.
