Cobra 75 WX ST handset Mobile CB Radio 75WXST
« on: May 11, 2010, 10:10:40 PM »
Ok,     So i went down to the local  RADIO SHACK and the had a couple of radio's and hardware.    I was looking at the COBRA 75WXST.  This is the hand held Cb in the handset!  It looks like it is built well and the idea of being able to hide it under the seat or take home with you is a great idea!  Before i make a purchase, i would like to ask the fellow jeepers  if they have had any experience with this hand held cb radio.  I own a COBRA 148 nw st  and the quality is very good, so i would like to stay with that brand. But, if anybody has a great small cb they like, I would like to hear!   I also installed my exterior mount and ran the cable from the back right corner all the way up and threw the fire wall.   I used the existing spare tire bumper mounting bolts to mount the custom bracket.  I wish i was better with this computer so i could send a picture!  I ran the cb cable out from the bottom of the rear brake light hole.  If you take off the brake light, the hole for the wiring is big enough for the cb cable to run through.   NO Drilling the body. Witch is a big deal because i live on the coast and everything rust here!   I'm always chasing rust!  SUCK'S!!    Anyway, please let me know if anybody has used the Cobra 75WXST.  I really appreciate it.   Thanks,  James....

The Cobra 148 is way better in my opinion. I don't use the 75 since it's speaker is so small it would be impossible for me to hear anything when traveling on the freeway. I would need to hold it like a cell phone. I have a Cobra 25 with external speaker that is mounted to the roll bar right behind my head. With the bikini top sometimes it's still hard to hear even at full volume.

I don't like the COBRA 75WXST that much.  The main downside to putting everything into the handset is that the handset is what gets thrown around the most.  When the handset breaks, and they all do sooner or later, you cannot get a inexpensive replacement since it's basically the whole radio. Get one with your basic controls like Vol, Sq and RF Gain.  Anything else is just an extra.  They're all about the same quality and rely more importantly on the antenna then anything else.

I have an Uniden Pro520XL.  It's very compact and has some good features like RF Gain but that's about as far as features go.  I guess it's similar to the 19 Cobra DX IV.  It doesn't do anything fancy.  If it gets wet or damaged, I'm not too worried.  My real com is the 2M radio.

You'll probably want to get an external speaker as the internals do get drowned out depending on where you mount them.  Shouldn't cost more then $10 though.  Mine is a MFJ.  It had filters in it so mostly voice frequencies can be heard.  No bass.

FOURBANGER, Thanks for the advise!   I think your right.   I dont think you could hook up a external speaker to the Hand held one and also a PA.      Thanks,   James...

Jeffy,  Ya, i looked at the UNIDEN. nice and small with the necessary features.  The COBRA 75WXST would be nice for those people that like to take from other people but the not being able to hook up a external speaker,  Would be hard to hear anything!      Always thank for the advise!        James...
