So scratch the MT/R's...

Long story short: Tired of 4WP blowing smoke out their asses about the MT/R's and when they'll have them, it will take at least a week to get a ceck from corporate if I cancel the order all together... And somehow they have a ton of KM2's available now so Monday afternoon I'm having a set installed   :biggrin:

Somehow they have them when no one else does yet (from what I've seen anyway) and they can't get the MT/R's when like 3 places locally can get them in a day  :confused:

92 YJ. Lifted, 4:88's, 9" rear, 4 wheel disks, some armor, some audio, 35" KM2's, and more

I don't doubt that I'll be happy with the KM2's, they were my first choice bfore I heard of the national back order. Kinda bummed I'm not getting the Goodyears now since I've been waiting 6 weeks for them and the more I looked at pictures the more they grew on me. But nonetheless the KM2's are definitely a good tire to have. I'm just happy I won't be running on slicks anymore. And that my tires won't shake at speeds of 65+  :beer:

I got my MT/R's in  a week from America's tires. I got them when they were fairly new and they had to get them from AZ. I will only buy tires from them because of all the xtra stuff they do for free. Plus they matched 4WP price and knocked $10 off a tire.

I usually go thru 4WP when it comes to Jeep stuff. But I found if they have something on back order they tend to not know what the hell they are doing in order to get. I was gonna order a VDP sound bar and was told it was on back order, so i waited a few weeks and still on back order. So I called Quadratec and they said it was on back order as well and they will try to get it as soon as possible. 2 days later Quadratec called and had it shipped that day.

The MT/R's are a great tire thou and after some wear on them they are still pretty quit on the freeway.

Building this Jeep on the Cheap! Just like Chrysler!

I've had my KM2's since January.  They're nice.  My ProComps had been radiating a lot of the road and I noticed a big difference when I got these.  They don't seem to be that great until you are them down, then I really get bite.  So far, I've only been brave enough to go down to 14 since I don't have bead lockers.  They're only 31" on 15" rims.

I've had my KM2's for over a year now; very nice tires overall.  They handle well in dry pavement (I have driven them from Panama to San Jose, Costa Rica; about 850 kilometers which is a tad over 500 miles each way), they handle wet pavement very well (the best I have seen on an MT, but I've heard good things about some tires I have not driven myself, like the MT/R's and the new Yokohama's; keep in mind the Jeep is in Panama, Cetnral America, so tropical storms here are a normal occurrence), they take a beating (I put a big gash on one when the tire came out from under the Jeep -  DONT ASK! -  and it is still keeping good pressure and all), and they take mud very well (I can show you vids if you want!).  They are also fairly quiet on the road, but they do become a bit louder over time (not noisy, but not as quiet as when they are new; I still can only hear them on a VERY well paved asphalt road when I coast downhill and there is not much wind noise).  I think you'll be happy...

Somebody is giving you a load of crap a buddy of mine just re shoed his Jeep with the new MTR's, which is definitely a better choice for playing near rocks than the KM2's.
KM2's drive nice on the street but people are still cutting sidewalls with them, not as bad as the older KM's though, those cut way to easy.

From what I understand, the BFG tire for rocks is the Krawler...  I have no idea how well it behaves on rocks or on paved roads (or any other surface!), but for my needs, the BFG's are just great.

I'm still hearing that for mud the MT/R's aren't that good.  Though, the MTR's were never really mud tires to begin with.

Krawlers are the bomb for rocks, very thick sidewalls and a pretty soft rubber compound. Just picked up a set for my lottle yellow Jeep on some ome beadlocks.
MTR's aren't the best mud tires but are a pretty darn good tire for Californian wheelin

From what I have read, and correct me if I am wrong, the MT/R's were really designed for rocks and dust more than mud.  I've read some poor reviews of the KM2's on mud, but so far, they have worked fine for my type of mud. 

All in all, just like when you build a Jeep, you need to know WHAT you want to do, and then get a tire that is good for doing AS MANY of the things that you want to do as you can.  For me, that means a tire that drives well on the street (either wet or dry pavement), and can handle thick, gooey mud.  To me, the KM2 has fit the bill just fine.

Goodyear lots traction when BFG brought out their AT and MT in the 80's.  They really started to gain in popularity in the 90's.  Goodyear needed to regain the edge so they developed and marketed the MT/R for rockcrawling.  That's what it was really designed for.  GY was then able to take the lead from BFG.  Then BFG developed the Krawler to go against the Interco Super Swamper Bias-ply.  It was a great offroad tire but wasn't good for much else.  So they developed the KM2 which is in direct competition with the MT/R.

MT/R actually stands for Maximum Traction/Reinforced.

One thing I noticed when driving a Jeep with KM2"s on the road is that they do not like water on the road. Where mine on MTZ's goes around the corner without sliding where it's wet the KM2's made the back end break out, but them MTR's aren't the best tires in the rain either. I think for mud you need something in the Suoperswamper family and call it good

The SSR's I used to have liked to peel out on me in the rain too, I had discount sipe my BFG M/T and that seemed to help some.  I like the MT/R's that I have on there now though.  Haven't had any complaints about them
