Topic: shifting too soon

Ok....I just put on a TB spacer and now it shifts way too soon through all gears! Any idea's?
97 2.5 automatic

I've tried messing with the adjustment on the cable but it doest change much. I guess i will have to make something to lift it up and go from there!

usually the tbs kits come with some spacers (like Bounty said) - i think you can make your own out of 1/4'' pipe (national pipe standard not 1/4'' OD) that you can buy at home depot or some tube that's strong enough - you'll need longer bolts, i think they are M6 (6mm screws) and Home Depot carries these ones as well.

Where did you get the spacer from? Generally the production TBS's come with 1" spacers to raise the bracket that holds the throttle cable up.

You can probably make some from some steel sleeves and longer bolts.  or see if someone who bought one for a manual, didn't use theirs.

They're also necessary when using a spacer on the 4.0L engine.  I have mine machined out of aluminum and offer them with the TB spacer.  The bolts are 6mmx40mm or 45mm in length.

i have read they are needed and not needed on the 2.5 4 banger. i am about to install mine. Mine did come with spacers for the linkage. On all my XJ 4.0's they were needed.

from a google search from a tb spacer install:

2.5L's have the linkage bracket in front of the fuel rail while 4.0L's have the bracket behind the fuel rail. The fuel rail makes it impossible to raise the linkage bracket but this will not be a problem. While the throttle body is off I recommend cleaning the bore out. There was a lot of build up around the valve since it had never been cleaned. Also scrape off any gasket that remained on the intake and bottom of the throttle body. Be sure not to let anything fall into the intake... that would be bad.

You do need to bend the back of the bracket at the rear hole, so it clears the fuel rail when you put the spacers in.
