Are you a comedian or is it Jeffy's profanity filter?  Maybe Jeffy's the comedian? :ghey:

Sounds like you're not accounting for speedo error due to larger tires when trying to calculate your gear ratio.  I've never heard of 4.26 gears, they generally jump from 4.11 to 4.56, but for an oddball d44 ratio of 4.30 in some vehicles.

Looks like Jeffy changed the cuss filter  :roflol:
4.27's are avail for LP D44's

RT if you are not real happy with the way your Jeep performs now, then a larger tire is going to make it worse. Regearing is about the only way to fix it.

hmm, everyone else is going the other way (with the 2.5L). The mpg goes down and you're basically out of 5th gear once you get your tires over 31 if you keep the stock gears

If you want to bring down the RPM's then going with bigger tires without a regear is the thing to do.  There is a fairly wide range of gearing that will feel acceptable (maybe not ideal but still acceptable), it's not something that has to be set exactly.

No intention to make your desition any tougher, but I run 31" witn stock 4.10 gears and it's fine. I didn't loose 5th and I can get to 75 mph on the highway.

Long story short...... with 31" I'm bounty hunter all over the place  :twofingers:

what tires do you run? Because I love the way that 31's look on tj's but I'm scared of adding the weight, rolling resistance, and added radius.

I'm running some pretty lame 31x10.5 Dunlop's Grandtrek AT2 with 1.5" wheel spacers:

I would not recommend this tires, they are not meant for heavy offroad use, the second they are worn out I will go to some BFG MT Km2. I have never had an issue with the spacers, I tighten them every month.

ok, cool they look great , I was looking for a tire that doesn't make a lot of noise, is pretty light and I could take to moab for some moderate crawling or duning in albuquerque. I'm really liking the GeneralTire AT Grabber2...does anyone know anything about this tire?

If I was going to run a AT tire I would run the BFG KO. It's pretty good at everything but mud. Not noisey, but the AT's are made to be that way.

General grabber is not a bad offroad tire at all, don't know about tire noise ask Chris Franklin on this board, he runs them and does pretty good offroad with them

I got some 31" Firestone Destination MTs and drove them over the entire Rubicon Trail last year without any problem.  They are pretty quiet on the highway as the reviews I read last year mentioned.

Little more noise than the 29" ATs I had previously, but I still sometimes forget that I'm using an MT tire.  Good in the wet and brake pretty well also.

As far as downsides, 33" is the largest size Firestone apparently makes in the Destinations.  I want to step up to 35s, I'll have to look for something else.

But, if you want MTs and want to keep things pretty quiet on-road, these have worked for me.  I'd check around and see what else is out there though.
