Jeep Campers?
« on: July 26, 2010, 02:37:39 PM »
Saw these and thought it was an interesting idea.  Not sure I like how clunky it looks though.  The company is called Phoenix Pop-up Campers. http://www.coyoterv.biz/

For the money, I'd rather have one of those Jeep trailers.  The camper top is around $12,000.

imo both prices are ridiculous but to be honest i can't see them running a manufacturing business w/o charging that price - it's not like you can make them in china for the volume they are probably selling.

I looked on their site, i couldn't find the Jeep one and still can't get my head around the way it is supposed to be installed and used with the hardtop on - i think those pics were just a mockup and the product would be custom made.

My guess is that they cut the tailgate up.  Seems strange to even have sliver of window still there.  It's probably not even glass though.  I think it would have been better if they didn't have to cut anything.

Can't imagine a kitchen in there or even a table.

I think for the money involved -- new Rubicon unlimited optioned out (40k) + 12k for the top  -- I'd make a deal on a used Mercedes G Wagon, buy a surplus tent, a coleman stove, piss in the woods and call it even   :wall:   I'd just get killed when the thing needed service though...

Most of the G-wagons in the US are all Luxury vehicles, not the utilitarian versions everyone else gets.  For teh money, you would be better off buying a used Defender 90 or even a 110.  Or better yet a Toyota Land Cruiser 80, 90 or even a 100.

Yeah, but with the Luxury G Wagon I'd have a shot at talking Miss July and Miss August in to getting out in the backwoods and roughing it with yours truly  :naughty:.     With the camper Rubicon or the utility G Wagon, probably not.
