2011 Jeep Wrangler Facelift: First Official Photos
« on: August 19, 2010, 05:17:54 PM »

The Chrysler Group has just lifted the wraps off its update/upgraded for the 2011 model year, Jeep Wrangler  and Wrangler Unlimited 4x4s. Highlights include a much-needed redesign of the interior with improved materials (or so the company claims) and a fresh styling, plus an all-new body-color hard top for the Sahara model and equipment upgrades that include a USB slot for the audio system.

Prices and availability for the 2011 Wrangler will be announced at a later date (though, Jeep said production began earlier this week at the firm's Toledo plant in Ohio). Until then, follow the break for a comprehensive high-res image gallery and the official press release.

    JEEP PRESS RELEASE:
New 2011 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited Feature All-new Interior and Premium, Body-color, Removable Hard Top

Chrysler Group LLC released images today of the new 2011 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited. Jeep continues to refine the successful Wrangler formula by combining its legendary, benchmark capability with an all-new interior that delivers rich styling with significantly upgraded touch surfaces, occupant comfort and versatility, and a premium appearance courtesy of an all-new body-color hard top for the popular Sahara model.

"The iconic Jeep Wrangler keeps getting better," said Mike Manley, President and CEO - Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. "While retaining unmatched, legendary capability, the 2011 Jeep Wrangler boasts an all-new interior that delivers a host of comfort, convenience and versatility features. In addition, Sahara models now feature a stunning, all-new body-color hard top, for customers looking for a Jeep Wrangler with a more premium appearance."

New 2011 Jeep Wrangler interior highlights include a redesigned instrument panel and new storage areas with improved ergonomics and upgraded materials. A new lockable console and upgraded door armrest areas boast comfortable touch points, while a redesigned center stack is easier to reach and operate. Heated, power mirrors are now available, and drivers and passengers will enjoy enhanced visibility courtesy of larger rear windows.

All-new steering-wheel controls allow the driver to operate the radio, cruise control, hands-free phone and other vehicle functions while keeping hands on the wheel. A new USB device interface connects to storage devices (thumb drives and most MP3 players) for use with the vehicle's Media Center, which now includes streaming Bluetooth audio. Twelve-volt accessory outlets have been added and a new 110-volt outlet is available to provide power similar to AC outlets in the home.

In line with traditional Jeep design, hex-head bolts are utilized throughout the interior, and are used to mount a "Jeep, Since 1941" inlay onto the new passenger grab handle.

Jeep engineers increased acoustical treatment in the 2011 Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited, resulting in significantly reduced interior noise.
To provide a more premium appearance, the 2011 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited Sahara models boast an all-new, premium, body-color hard top.
Several new Jeep Wrangler colors are available for 2011, including Detonator Yellow, Deep Cherry Red, Sahara Tan, Cosmos Blue and Bright White.
Production of the new 2011 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited began earlier this week at the Toledo Assembly Complex in Toledo, Ohio.

interior looks really nice.. almost too nice to get dirty.. feels like a grand Cherokee kinda..  i noticed they moved the sway bar disconnect and locker buttons on the rubi to the left of the gauges (picture elsewhere on the internet), looks like more room for extra switches...

I dont see an interior like that in an environment like this:

'94 YJ 2.5L with 4" RE lift, Superwinch EPi9.0, FoMoCo e-Fan, SD30 and SD35 w/ARB-5.13, 165A alt., 33" BFG KM2 on 15" AR wheels, Sony sound system, Pavement Ends Hardtop, Hydroboost

I think that's a pretty minor issue. The door panels are plastic so they can be washed out.  Yank out the carpet and the only real consideration would be teh leather seats, although those can be cleaned pretty easily as well.  Still a lot easier to clean then any other jeep in the lineup.  The last Jeep where you could just hose out the whole interior was the YJ and even they don't like to get too wet.

Too much crap.  They need to offer a super stripped down version that doesn't look like a mini van inside.

It looks nice but it doesn't have the feel of a Jeep Universal any more.  They should offer a model with a 1943 style dash, good individual gauges, manual throttle and no plastic.

Well, you're not going to get an old CJ dash ever again.  I mean people complained about the YJ dash when it first came out and then again when the TJ came out.  My only worry is how waterproof the electrics are.  The YJ was the last Jeep they advertised as being able to wash the whole interior out with a hose.  Gotta wonder how the throttle sensor (drive by wire)will react to being under water.

Now comparing the 2010 to the 2011, I think it's a nice improvement.  If you really think about it, people have been wheeling XJ's, MJ's, ZJ's, WJ's, KJ's etc... and they have a full dash.  I also doubt many lower the windshields and remove the doors.  The doors look too nice to remove anyway which kinda defeats the purpose.  As for the leather interior, most domestics don't use true leather upholstery but rather a laminate.  So it's leather over a vinyl backing which is pretty much no maintenance.

The big wheels where only there because they lacked PS.  In an accident they were a bit dangerous as the spokes would bend and you'd get impaled by the steering shaft.

I do like the old dashes with the W gauges though.

x2. Jeeps are not supposed to be comfortable, or a stylish interior, and should in no single scenario ever have actual leather anywhere. it is supposed to be a bare bones utilitarian vehicle. not some posh car to replace the mini-van for the starbucks sucking soccer moms who have no idea what the lockers or sway bar disconnects do or when they should be used. honestly, i don't even think jeeps should have automatic transmissions or airconditioning. if it's warm enough to warrant a/c, the top should be down.
