upgrade tranfercase

i have the 97 wrangler with the ax5 and my np231 transfercase is not sounding to good making alot of new sounds. i was wondering if anyone has taken the tranfercase out of the rubicon the nvg241or and put it behind there ax5. any help would be great.

The AX5 has a 21 spline output. The NVG241 has a 23 spline input. I don't know if anyone makes a spud shaft and adapter to mate the two.
You could do a AX15 conversion then add the 241.

I would imaging the 21spl input shaft from the 231 would fit inside the 241or, then they'd bolt up.

I'm not a fan of 4:1 low transfer for wheelin here in the Midwest, but I guess it's all in how you set up the rest of your drivetrain and what you're going to do with it.

Check out JB Conversions' beefed up NP231J case: 6 pinion planetary, fat chain, and ultra short shaft slip yoke eliminator.  Just a thought.

I haven't heard of anyone doing this but it would be cool if it worked.  Maybe send an email off to Novak (http://www.novak-adapt.com/) and see if they have any insight.
