I found a way to solve my lack of power problem with my 2.5L TJ

It was a no-brainer, really: I bought a 4.0L TJ!

It's a 1998 Sport 5-speed with the Dana44 axle, 3.73 gears and only 82,000 miles.  It needs some minor TLC to be ready for full-time use (new 31" tires and a budget boost, a serious steam cleaning inside, a new soft top, and a real front bumper to replace that goofy hoop thing currently installed).  As soon as I'm done addressing those items, the '97 SE goes up for sale.

You betcha!  The rocker guards required drilling, so they'll stay put.  I think the budget boost will make the SE more marketable, so that will also remain (and besides, I can get another one for dirt cheap anyway).  But my CB antenna, front diff guard, new 31" MT/Rs, aftermarket stereo system, etc will all be transferred over.

If you didn't care about making a dog out of the 2.5L you could swap axles with the 4.0L.

Looks good. I would leave the hoop thing on there.  It protects your fenders and also allows the tires to contact rocks under the fenders.  The hoop also protects the radiator in case of a roll. I really like the design.

I certainly understand this sentiment.  I have cherished every one of my TJs, and there is a lot to love about my SE.  Nevertheless, my long-term plans would be better met with the Sport... so that's why I'm switching.

I've already got a buyer lined up for my SE.  Even better, he has outlined his immediate plans for modifications (3" lift + 33" tires) so we've discussed together how much stuff I can remove from the Jeep (nearly all of it) and what he would like to remain in place.  I'm very happy about that.

I'm not sure how it would fit my YJ and it would be complicated getting it here (Monterrey, Mexico).  But I do like it.
