I'll second Art here; if you want to keep your Jeep's good road manners, forget about the Detroit.  They are VERY reliable, and pretty much bullet proof, but they also have some odd road manners which you need to get used to.  in my opinion, they do not pass the Valet Parking test (as in would you trust your Jeep to a valet considering the on-road manners).  ARB's are a ton of dough, but there's a reason for that.

And yes, you CAN get stuck with ARB's, but if you do, no other locker would have helped.  In my opinion, it's all between ARB and Ox, and I prefer ARB because you dont have to fool around with the cable (if the cable is not set properly, the locker will not engage).  With ARB's the only possible issue you would have is if you break a line, and there are quick connectors that are not expensive (I have about 10 of them in my Jeep just in case, but have never needed them) that you just cut the line, plug both ends in the quick connector, and call it good...

ok. although i totally hear you guys applauding ARB, it's still well above the $$ limit for me. I also dont want to lose my road manners so i wont be going with detroit (thank you for the info on them). Aussie locker seems pretty low priced but it says it auto engages and im assuming that could also kill my on road manners. so i guess it leaves me back with the electronic locker. when i get back ill stop by some 4x4 shops and see what kind of a price i can get.

By the way, i see a lot of you guys running e-fans. wont be a mod for this particular project.i wanted to know, are they pretty loud? can you hear them while driving? any whine associated?

The E_locker is 650 ish. The ARB 7 to 800.... Not that much cost difference. If you only doing 1 end, and the bonus is if you buy the good ARB compressor you can air up tires... Win win... :pot:

these are the non sale prices from 4wd.comh

eaton e-locker - $780 (comes with full length wiring and switch)
auburn ected - $750 (comes with switch)

arb - $800
arb compressor kit - $150 (no air tank)
air lines - $30 or so

if you buy both front and reat then the difference for the compressor is less (like $90 per locker)

so you're looking at about $100 to $150 more / axle, doesn't seem that much

JFYI OX also offers an air actuated option which replaces the cable with an air cylinder. They also have a electric actuator which replaces the manual lever on the cable system.

i thought the deal with ARB was $700 or so for the locker, and another $200 for the air compressor. either way ill have to look into it more and speak face to face with ppl at a few of the 4x4 shops around here so i can get their price range as i am not gonna be regearing/locking myself. i do appreciate the info u guys have given me on the lockers themselves. im def eliminating the detroits from my possible options.
