Radio theft!
« on: January 05, 2011, 04:11:19 PM »
Hi all,

Went out to my jeep this morning to find a busted window and a missing radio.  The jagaloon who did it cut the wires to get the radio out, so I don't even have the wire harness in there.  I don't really want to mess with trying to wire a radio with different colors into the existing wires.  I wanna just wire a new factory harness in, and maybe get one of the plug and play dealies for a new head unit.  My question is, where  can I pick up a factory radio harness?  (besides the pick and pull yard...I checked, no jeeps there  :fitz: )

Gonna be tough with a vehicle that's 16 years old.  You might try some sites like Jeeps Unlimited or even Pirate4x4.  People are usually stripping out their Jeeps there.

You might want to get a stereo with a removable face plate.  The new stereo will have bare wire ends and a connector to the back of the deck.  You could just hardwire the harness to your bare wires.  It's not like you're swapping out stereo's that often anyway.

I would get a universal plug and wire it up correctly and get the install plug for that then you could still swap the deck at later date and not have to cut up under the dash

i just googled "reverse wiring harness" amd it ca, right up. The only reason i even knew what it was called is i have had so many cheap head units stole that I quit buying radios for my vehicles i just keep my mp3 player in my pocket and run it through a 4 channel amp hidden in the locking console of the jeep or under the bench seat in my truck where they can't be stolen quickly or quietly.
