Here we have a set of Dana 44's for pretty cheap. I looked around and couldn't find any write ups on axles from a 67 Gladiator. If you guys can check this ad out and let me know what you think. I have a 95 yj 2.5 and wonder if they'll fit.... with mods or whatever. Thanks.

You can use them if you wanted to but I'd pass.  Those are going to be 65.5" wide or so.  The drums up front and skinny drums out back.  It's a passenger side drop on the pinion as well.

The best bet would be to get a Ford 8.8" unless you want to do a 1986-1991 SJ Wagoneer.  Or if you get really lucky, a 1978-1979 Ford F-350 with a pair of D60's.  These are 65" wide but with a lot of positive wheel offset they can be pretty narrow.  The hubs do still out though.  I think those options are ebtter then just fishing on CL.

What kind of wheels are they again?  I bought some used but not abused Mavic 719's off a guy on another forum.  Still haven't mounted them.  I need to get a chain whip to swap the cassette over but I'm not really in a hurry since it's raining season, not to mention cold.  I don't have any winter riding gear yet.

 Yeah, I've been looking for an 8.8 but just came across these and thought I might check them out. I'm going to hit a junkyard as soon as I get some time. If you're still game for a junkyard trip let me know. As for the rims, I'm pretty sure they are Mavic but can't be positive. I just bought the bike for the frame so I didn't even look... plus I run disc and they are V-brake rims. I'll get them out of my storage downstairs tonight and confirm. I have a chain whip and most of the other tools too if you want to use them instead of buying.

 I would like an axle that would allow me to run 35's with no problem, ideally I would like to have a 4.88 gear ratio with chromoly shafts and lockers because I drive it on street and trails. Basically something stonger than my stock 30/35 set up I have now. I'll try and upgrade the 30 first since its the weakest one.

 I want to feel confident going through The Rubicon with a 4 banger and I figure axles are going to be the strong link in that situation.

usually its the 35 that's the weaker axle that people have more problems with.

OK, That makes sense because all of the power is going straight to that axle I guess. I'm going to do a junkyard trip as soon as I get a chance and look for an 8.8 or Waggy D44.

About the rear D44.  A rear D44 from a Wagoneer will need to be paired with a front Wagoneer D44 due to the bolt pattern.  The D44s that will work is from a Cherokee or Comanche or even a TJ although the TJ axles are weaker.  My D44 is actually from some Dodge vehicle from the 70s and is the exact width and bolt pattern as a YJ axle.  I have no idea if this was an axle available only in Mexico or if these can also be found in the US.
