Topic: Tensioner bolt

Snapped the tensioner bolt adjusting the belt, anybody know where to find a new one? Dealership or machine shop is all ive been able to come up with. Thnx

I just use a pry-bar and and lightly put tension on it and then tighten  the bolts down and good to go. mine has been broke for a long time to.

Thanks, looks like crowbar is the way to go, not spending 100 bucks for the whole assembly at the dealership, and jeep parts in the junkyards in my town are scarce.

Haha ya 95. Finished tightening it with pb, vicegrips and some knuckle skin

hey im not alone. just adjusted belt on 94yj. removed ps pump and adjuster braket. cleaned up bolt and ground flats in place of rounded head. worked great. however when trying to replace bolt the only fix i could find would be to buy approriate length 8x 1.25m bolt and cut new threads to head of bolt. good luck

Thanks for the tip, seems like what seem to be the smallest problems r the biggest pains. Like the heater hose pipe on the water pump. Grrrr....

I would guess you'd be able to find a replacement bolt.  It's metric though so you' would have to go to a fastener store and not HD.

since it's an 8mm he might be able to get away with a 5/16 bolt that is long enough, cut off the standard threads and then cut another thread on the rest of the bolt. 5/16''=7.94mm should be close enough
Just thinking that he'll have to cut the thread anyway and the standard 5/16 bolt would be easier to find (don't think you can find that long of an M8 bolt or chances are very slim).

Yes I have snapped these also.  I ended up biting the bullet a number of years ago and buying a new one from the dealership.

I broke mine a month ago while installing an alternator. Take it apart and weld the bolt back together thats what I did. Mig and a grinder did the trick. I had to use a torch to heat the adjusting block to remove the rest of the bolt though. I suppose this depends on where it broke.

re thread  it and use a piece of allrod and 2 nuts that what i did when dealer wants $30 for a new one
