Topic: HELP in Las Vegas.. '84 CJ-7

      . are there any of you in the Las Vegas area that have ever worked on the backside of the dash in a CJ-7? I have an '84 that someone trashed the wires.. it runs, most or some stuff works, but everything is hanging down and looks like a huge potential "walk out of the desert" scene.. after it all shorts out.. I managed to get the dash loose, but? do I have to drop, or should I say, how do I drop the steering column far enough to get to the backside and put everything back in its little clips and keepers? and take out the trash that was put in and cut, leaving ends everywhere? If it was me I'd order a new under-dash harness if its that bad...

They are a couple hundred bucks, but sometimes cash saves pain...

when we did some wiring behind the dash of a friends cj7 we took out the seats so we could lay on the floor of the jeep and look up under the dash.. not as nice as taking the dash out. but it worked for us... the bolts may be a pain if the seats have never been out but that wasn't an issue on this jeep.

If you unplug the gauges then you should be able to pull the whole instrument panel off once you remove teh steering wheel.  It's a lot easier then pulling the column.  I don't think you'd be able to lower the column enough to clear the panel.

  one would say that..  this thing has the Laredo tilt wheel with all the stuff in it, I've already stripped the threads out of a steering wheel puller trying to get it off, of course it was chinese, maybe a good one would do the trick..  taking the seats out and laying upside down is an option, just don't like the angle.. better to look direct than "up and angled"..  thanks for the inputs tho..  I see these guys stripping their jeeps down to frames and getting them back together, so I guess I can get this little wiring problem taken care of.. somehow..

Pull the column then.  It shouldn't be too hard.  A couple bolts at the yoke and two under the dash.  Unhook the harness and out it comes.

quit on it for this part of the year.. headed back to WAshington now in the YJ.. so I'll start again on the CJ in November..  thanks tho..  love the extended bolt idea for the dash to work on it..
