Mileage Check (not gas mileage)
« on: April 21, 2011, 09:17:56 AM »
I'm just wondering how many miles are on you 2.5L's, I'm mostly interested in the ones with over 100k on them. I am just wondering how long some of these things have lasted.

I have threee differnt numbers.  The Jeep itself has 252xxx and still going.  I replaced the engine 2 years ago May, after I sucked in a valve on # 3 cylinder. (failure caused by stupidity) The "New" engine has about 102XXX miles on it.  It does not burn any oil and feels strong.  The "New" tranny ( replaced 4 years ago has about 160XXX on it.

94 with 180,000 something.  Not sure why its still running.  Screwed up the cooling system.  Mix types of antifreeze and it turned to jell.  Replaced Radiator and flushed the rest of the system Fixed that.

Then had the Catalytic converter screwed up it broke apart inside and turned sidways completly blocking the exhaust.  Had oil coming out the dipstick from backpressure in the engine.  Got rid of that cat and just have a muffler now.

Now I'm adding a 4.0 throttle body and new Injectors, Its running much better already.  Still strong.

PS the Starter does not like oil, going on my 2nd one now from that Cat back up.

95 wrangler 2.5> 227000 miles running quite well. no worries. Probably the only real problem was a few months ago some idiot ran over a parked car in front of my place. You guessed it! it happened to be my jeep parked there. It's all fixed now.  Oh, yeah I had a PCM failure couple years ago, but parts from radio shack fixed it right up. :stick:

I got almost 200 000km's out of my original engine before I hydro-locked it.. would have probably still be going today had I not done that to it.

Bought mine with 109K about 5 years ago.  It was all stock except for wheels and tires (31's).  It now has 136K miles on the clock, with many mods done to it and rolling on 33's and 4.88 gears.  5th gear acts up a bit (you can hear a churn churn churn from it when coasting) but still works (I don't really use it much, though).

142,000 miles when I bought it, 153,000 now, runs great.  When I first looked at it, it had a miss and a CEL and the used car lot ended up sending the head out for a rebuild and valve job.  As far as I know the rest of the motor is original.  Carfax showed the head gasket being replaced twice before.  It burns a quart of oil about every 1000 miles, which is tolerable.

I guess I could have chimed in to my own thread. Mine has 153k on it. It still has the original engine and transmission, and according to the previous owner the original clutch.  It has a little lifter tick that goes away once it warms up. I'm hoping to get to at least 200k, hopefully more.

The lifter tick is normal even for a new 2.5L.  It's the hydraulic lifters, takes a while to get pumped up.  You should be able to get 200,000 miles with regular maintenance.

1985 XJ 274K. She is starting to get tired though. For the last 4 months I am changing the oil once a month cause there is gas getting in.
I must say that I am doing 74 miles a day with my commute round trip and she has not left me stranded..
