Is there a difference between rubicon 44 aand waggy 44 inner axles? Is it just length.

on the rubi only the center housing is D44, the tubes are D35 size or D30 for the front. still the axles are 30 splines but i think is the same bearing and c-clip in the rear as on the D35.

Since you run a V8, you might be a lot happier in the long run with a HP60 out front
The U joints on the axle shafts in a Dana 44 are skimpy for big tires and a V8.
You are going to find that with hard wheelin you can pretty much granate those at will

I'm cutting down two HP44's and using stock Waggy shafts.  One for the YJ and one for the MJ

I am pretty sure chevy or jeep outers and chevy brakes and spindle. They are most all 297 so should work. Hey bounty can u send me a pm with cost for cut down housing empty. You arnt to far of a drive.

Point is to have lockouts as weak link and make for easy trail fix. Damn dana 60too big ffor only 4.5 lift and 35s

I replied to your PM.  http://www.gds4x4.com/ is the shop that quoted me $300 to remove the inner C's, cut to Waggy width, and weld the C's with proper caster and pinion angle.

If you set the diff  covers of a dana 44 and a dana 60 side by side the dana 60 pumkin only hangs 1" lower than the dana 44. Is not an unsurmountable difference and it's a heck of a lot stronger. Or have a somewhat exotic axle built, a friend of mine had dana 44's with dana 60m outer ends on it, that is about the best of both worlds

You can find those in the wild as well.  They're 3/4T Dana 44's.

Not for the front, you cannot, they all have the skimpy U joints, that is the whole thing big U joints and 35 spline inners and  outers. Buddy of mine granated the stub shafts at will, never killed the lockout or so called fuse though.

How about a fabbed high pinion 9" with dana 60 outers?  That would be awesome.

Also, the JK dana 44s have bigger u-joints.

Some custom shops have been making hybrid's for a while.  Ford 9" centers with Dana 60 outers.  They haven't been that popular though.

The JK Dana 44's seem to be a fairly popular swap these days, time will tell how well they hold up, they have weak tubes and inner C's though
