Engine overhaul
« on: June 15, 2012, 10:07:24 AM »
So, I am seriously thinking about doing a major overhaul to get some power back.  So what exactly will I need?

At this time, I am considering the following:
1. New head (I found some at about $150 online)
2. Keep roller rockers (I dont plan to get new ones)
3. Change the water pump to the Flowkooler one (more flow)
4. New pistons and rings (I am thinking .030 over)
5. New oil pump (for $100, I rather be sure it's up to par; any suggestions on which one?)
6. New starter (the current one is on its final leg)
7. New sensors (TPS, MAP, CPS, Camshaft Position Sensor, IAC)
8. I am considering if I should also change the thermostat housing to the higher flow ones...  What do yo uguys think?
9. I will go back to a PD ignition system (coil, wires, cap and rotor)
10. I have new valve springs and retainers already, so those will go in as well...
11. New fuel injectors
12. New vacuum lines (silicone; already got them)

Apart from all this, what else do you recommend?  I will try to increase compression as well to 10.5 or so (keep in mind regular gas here is 91 octanes!).  I have a good radiator in place (Griffin), so that's staying, as well as the hoses (BRX silicon hoses).  I imagine I need to get a overhaul kit (with the seals and gaskets), but anything else that I am missing?  Any other parts that you recommend I change?

And, by the way, if you have any brands, models or vendors you recommend for anything I need, please post them here...

Not sure of Brands but my local Machinist wants me to bring in the block to him when rebuild time comes up.  He wants to see how much power he can get.  He also has a place that reginds cams.

I swapped my cam out for a Mopar Performance one about 2 or 3 years ago (not that many miles ago), so I'll stick to that one.  Is it necesary to change the tappets again?  I dont think so, right?

505Performance 2.9L stroker kit! I'm leaning that way in a big way. I have 193K on the clock so I am looking into this very thing. I will also probably have an inertia ring installed at rebuild time. Jus t my thoughts.

The more I look at the site the more questions I have.

 So sent them an e-mail.

Quote
Would like more info on your 2.5/2.9 Stroker Torque Monster 5052.5.  What are Performance Brackets.  Do you have any more info on these kits.  Would like to know what they come with Any Pictures of these kits.  Do you have any reviews of these kits.

Like the cam what else is required with this.  What does the cam come with.

Thanks.

there's not much info there, i looked at their site (not the shopping site) and i can't find it. Also, how the hell is stage1 the same price as stage3 which includes the roller rockers for example (those on their own are pb worth about $350 so i'm a little lost), and there's no mention of the pushrods which you might need. They also say custom piston 8.75 to 10.75 (what the hell does that mean anyway?).

no info but i'm def interested to hear/see more about it so let me know what they say.

8.75 to 10.75 is the compression ratio available.  Did not see the roller rockers.  That was why I asked for a parts breakdown.  And maybe recommendations on what to use.  Me I would like the stage 1 just for the fact you get low end power.

Does the cam need new springs and keepers.   And what the hell are Performance Brackets.

i think the performance brackets are for the main bearing caps (again, i'm assuming)

about the CR - duh! had a "braindead" moment

the roller rockers are in the list for stage 3 (if you click on the title will open another page) but the price for all kits (torque monster, stage 1/2/3) are the same although the parts listed are different and stage 3 has the most parts, confusing.

i checked their main site and clicked on their pdf catalog but this stroker kit is not in there http://www.shop.505performance.com/media/505catalog1.pdf

I wish that I was closer to rebuilding, I would like to see if we could swing a "Groupon" for this. I would make mine the "Torque Monster" though.
