  Well the wind here is now really Blowing, Driving  south on I-5 I had to downshift to 4th on flat level ground and could barely maintain 55 MPH.  Its not the Jeep just that hard of a wind.

That's how it is driving I-5 through CA.  You have to rev it up and run +3000 rpm at 55-60 mph.  There's no protection from the crosswind in the central valley and it's always there.

Was Born and Raised in Lancaster so I know what wind is. :slapfight:

  If I would have been heading north I could have really saved some gas. :dance:

Well you could draft a tractor trailer! :driving:  Jeeps and headwinds or crosswinds are terrible.  That tailwind really helps the milage if you can catch it!

Trust me the wind was so bad I was still passing the semi's.  Plus we have a mixed speed limit up here 55 Mph Semi, 65 Mph Auto's.


  Wind was down today, now its raining so had the water on the road is slowing me down and I was driving my truck.

Was driving back to LA from Las Vegas about 2 years ago and it was freakin' awful, probably the worst winds I've driven in.  Wind west-to-east was reported as 30-40 mph, altitude approaching a mile at one point on the route, 70mph speed limit highway (so most were driving 70-90mph). 

I was preoccupied zinging along in 3rd-4th gear so much on that highway to just to stay right and keep it at Carter-era speeds, that I got seriously low on gas in a hurry and engine sputtered.  Ended up having to turn around and head back east to a no-name station about 10 miles back that turned out to be ridiculously pricey; but they were apparently the "only game in town."

Can't say I'd spring for a turbo for the 4banger just for that trip, but I'd definitely consider taking a rental with a decent engine next time.
