the sad thing or good for somebody is i have seen it really happen many times before,  for that matter being a mechanic i have bought my customer's vehicles for incredible prices because people think that if the engine or tranny goes then you should just scrap the car, but then again if you pay all the labor maybe it isn't worth it.

The clip holding 5th gear on the shaft generally breaks from a hard shift from 4th to 5th and bad synchros.  I drove one for a long time after broken with no problems, but the broken clip will be in the bottom of the tranny, to heavy to really float around (but if it does)

You can replace the clip, easy to get to once the case halves are split.  It'll only do it again if the clip groove is damaged or the syncrhos are bad.

Anybody that doesn't know it, do not run the factory recommended GL5 rated gear oil in the AX5 or AX15, the high sulfer content will eat the soft brass syncrhos and your gear oil will come out like brass glitter.  If you've got hard shifting, put in Redline MT90 before it's too late.

So, we should drain our tranny's and replace the fluid with redline mt 90 ?

I like it. I'm gonna have to get some soon. My reverse grinds abit, and I used to have trouble with shifting when I raced it everywhere, but I mellowed out now. But I am gonna get some of this, when I replace my 2 year old motor mounts. Every two years got to replace them.

Oh definately RedLine is the best. I have a noisy bearing in my AX15 and it used to be VERY loud and I had the typical grindng in 3rd, but after Redline MT was installed 3rd shifts perfectly and the bearing noise is almost entirely gone OH and the BIG difference, no more COLD shifting issues. Don't have to SHOVE it into 1st and or 2nd in the winter. Goes in without any trouble.
