I hate the DMV. I thought they were OK when I could do stuff online but when you can't, you get stuck with the retard behind the desk who more then likely is sick and you have to exchange paperwork with them. Joy...
I had them issue me my Amateur Band License plates back in Sept of last year. Because the Prisoners were on lockdown or something, they weren't making my plates till Nov. I got them after Xmas. Problem is they screwed it up. Not the prisoners but the State. WTF thought it was a good idea to put a space after the first 3 letters should be shot. So I take my bo-yah! up call letters and go back to DMV. (HAM Radio operators petitioned for the removal of the space back in January and someone listened.) So I go to have them corrected. which means another 3-4 month wait. Now I get the new plates yesterday but no stickers. So I have to go back to DMV and they tell me they aren't going to give them to be since my registration is do in 27 days. So my condolence prize is a red piece of paper that will keep the Popo off me till the end of the month.
Great, since the state had to issue me new plates and each time a new registration, they decided not to send me my renewal form either. So, to make my day even more bo-yah! up, I changed the Jeeps oil and got less then 2liters in return. It was down by a little more then 2 quarts and it smelled bad. I think driving it over a year without changing the oil makes it smell bad. ;-)
Then it was off to get SMOG'ed. I find a cheap place that doesn't screw around and charges a decent price. Only to find out that the great state of CA chose me to be one of the chosen ones who gets screwed and has to go to the 'Test Only' station (read: stricter). The pricing for the SMOG test is bo-yah! up really bad. Basically, the state charges $9 for the cert. Then $1.50 for the phone call to download the data off the machine to their DB. Who the bo-yah! still uses phone modems anymore? Then starting Dec '07, any car older then 1995 gets to do an additional test to check the fuel system for leaks in the Evap system. They pump your tank full of nitrogen and charge you whatever they want. Basically over the basic cert. fee they can charge you whatever they want. I've seen prices as high as $160.
So anyway after my ass reaming ($59), the Jeep passed easily. Now I have to go back to the DMV to talk to someone who should be home sick instead of working and hopefully not catch anything. That's gonna cost me $63.
Oh, btw: The Jeep passed with a 4.0L TB and Ford #19 Injectors.
