I hate the DMV!
« on: May 21, 2008, 07:54:02 PM »

I hate the DMV.  I thought they were OK when I could do stuff online but when you can't, you get stuck with the retard behind the desk who more then likely is sick and you have to exchange paperwork with them.  Joy...

I had them issue me my Amateur Band License plates back in Sept of last year.  Because the Prisoners were on lockdown or something, they weren't making my plates till Nov.  I got them after Xmas.  Problem is they screwed it up.  Not the prisoners but the State.  WTF thought it was a good idea to put a space after the first 3 letters should be shot.  So I take my bo-yah! up call letters and go back to DMV.  (HAM Radio operators petitioned for the removal of the space back in January and someone listened.)  So I go to have them corrected. which means another 3-4 month wait.  Now I get the new plates yesterday but no stickers.  So I have to go back to DMV and they tell me they aren't going to give them to be since my registration is do in 27 days.  So my condolence prize is a red piece of paper that will keep the Popo off me till the end of the month.

Great, since the state had to issue me new plates and each time a new registration, they decided not to send me my renewal form either.  So, to make my day even more bo-yah! up, I changed the Jeeps oil and got less then 2liters in return.  It was down by a little more then 2 quarts and it smelled bad.  I think driving it over a year without changing the oil makes it smell bad.  ;-)

Then it was off to get SMOG'ed.  I find a cheap place that doesn't screw around and charges a decent price.  Only to find out that the great state of CA chose me to be one of the chosen ones who gets screwed and has to go to the 'Test Only' station (read: stricter).  The pricing for the SMOG test is bo-yah! up really bad.  Basically, the state charges $9 for the cert.  Then $1.50 for the phone call to download the data off the machine to their DB.  Who the bo-yah! still uses phone modems anymore?  Then starting Dec '07, any car older then 1995 gets to do an additional test to check the fuel system for leaks in the Evap system.  They pump your tank full of nitrogen and charge you whatever they want.  Basically over the basic cert. fee they can charge you whatever they want.  I've seen prices as high as $160.

So anyway after my ass reaming ($59), the Jeep passed easily.  Now I have to go back to the DMV to talk to someone who should be home sick instead of working and hopefully not catch anything.  That's gonna cost me $63.

Oh, btw: The Jeep passed with a 4.0L TB and Ford #19 Injectors.

Wow... nice rant... and cuss word filtering!

Arizona= wants to adopt commufornia SMOG laws, but no one is letting it pass... I'm not even sure if it did that it would matter outside of phoenix...

PO removed my cat, I wouldn't have though... it really doesn't smell bad...

I wouldn't pass inspections though (if we had it), the computer is basically running on "limp" mode until I get a new TPS and Idle Stepper Motor...

Got them here in my county of TN.  It has been a pain in my butt for sure.  Thankfully they don't do that gas tank stuff.  I wouldn't worry about passing but $150 for emmissions testing would set me off.  I damn near hit the smart ass tree hugging bastard that got enjoyment out of failling me because my check engine light didn't come on when you partially turned  the ignition.  Bad bulb,  it had been bad since I bought it and had passed 3 times prior.

One of the few things I love about Michigan....no inspection.

Also, found out yesterday that there is no tire coverage law...so, no that I ripped off my window tinting, I'm 100% legal!! :guns:

I was a bit worried that I might not pass with the injectors since it does make a performance different.  The exhaust note change was a big indicator of the change and I was worried about it passing.  Turns out it runs great.

Oh and for those who don't know, it's not just a sniffer test.  They put it on a dyno and check it at 15mph and 25mph.  Too bad I can't get engine performance stats while I'm there.

As for the Evap test, I wasn't worried.  When I run my tank low 5gal or less, my tank seems to form a vacuum.  So it's not going to leak.  If you take the gas cap off when it's low you'll hear the hissing as air enters the tank.

I still have to go back to the DMV today to pay my reg. fees.

Oh and I just realized, on my paperwork that was lost, it had my address, VIN and DL number with my signature.  :brick:

So after getting the Jeep all registered and legal, I now have a issue.  One of the injectors isn't firing right.  It's a Code 27 which is 3 or 4.  I think the plug for 3 is the one that is cracked so I'll have to check it.  It doesn't always fail but is noticeable when idling.  Idle goes ruff and the CEL comes on.  What a PITA, the injectors were fine before this!  I hate having something else touch my Jeep.  Not to mention the guy rode the clutch so it was mushy when I got in.
