Hood scoop

So do you think there is any added performance gained from a hood scoop? Something kinda like this.

if you have a cone filter and a shield around it so the intake takes it's air thru the scoop you will make some HP - as an example 20F intake air temp difference results in 5 HP loss or gain depends how you look at it.

Well the reason for that scoop is because it's diesel and has a snorkel that attaches to it.  There will probably be a few HP gain since diesels tend to run hot and those Jeeps are deployed in Egypt and other hot climate areas but that's not really what it's for.

It would seem that it would allow more air in to the air box. I put on the stock TJ air tube. The inlet is about the same spot as the JK. Not sure it would be worth building a scoop. As Sharp mentioned a box inside the hood would also need to be built.

Building a shield/box would help seal off the engine compartment from the scoop and you get better flow with the positive pressure.  Otherwise, the scoop is just going to be a vent.

If you really wanted to keep all of the air cool then I would probably go back to using the YJ routing which is shorter and you're going over the engine.  Then using heat shielding over everything.

With the motor moved forward 4 inches the stock YJ air box set up was replaced with a Rock-it city tube. Then after messing around with the K&N I swtiched to the TJ setup. I couldn't figure out how to get the stock YJ airbox to work without a lot of work.
I don't mind the TJ setup. I still have the trumpet on. Not sure I am going to mess around with it.

You could use a new elbow that's 4" shorter on a YJ box?

The other problem I see is if you ford any deep water, that's going to get sucked right in as the water pushes over the hood.

Good point on the water crossing. Not that I have that around here but you never know. I would like to do Fordyce some day.
