4.0L Engine mounts
« on: September 24, 2012, 05:45:34 PM »
Just curious, anyone know if the aluminum brackets that hold the mounts to the block are interchangeable?  I was reading that some people who swap to 4.0L's can get away with reusing their 2.5L engine mounts but they don't really go into it.  I know the actual engine mounts aren't the same as the 4.0L's so you'd have to swap the brackets as well.  Anyone run across this?

Brown Dog lists their's as being different, but I'm not positive. May just be because their 4.0L mounts use extra bolt holes and the 2.5L doesn't need it. :puzzled: http://browndogindustries.com

I bet Tim there would know.

By the way, I still have my OEM 4.0L brackets minus the fubar mounts.

I know Brown Dog bought a bunch of the old frame mounts when Chrysler wes liquidating them.  I'm curious since I keep seeing people mention they reused their old mounts and the 2.5L mounts are different.  IIRC, the driver side spacing is around 1/2" wider on the driver mount.  I think the passenger side was slightly smaller as well.

The passenger side mount is a two piece gadget on mine, the left is not...

The right side has a plate bolted on top that's like a spacer, it broke once
and the dealer had them in stock said it was way common.. Maybe the 4.0 does not need the spacer?

Cheers.

The 4.0L does not use the spacer and the spacing of the bushing is different.  I'm wonder about using the whole engine mount.  The frame, mount and bracket on a 4.0L.
