stock gear ratio

i have a 1995 Wrangler Rio Grande with a 2.5 4cyl and 3 speed auto transmission.  i am about 90% sure it has the stock gears because it is very sluggish off the line and it only has 31's on it.  is there a site or does anyone know what the stock ratio would be for this model?? there are no tags on the diffs and i dont want to fool with the turn the input, count the rotaions thing.

im getting a set of 30/35 axles that already have detroits in both and 4.11 gears but i was wondering what the stock gears were.

Your stock ratio is 3.73:1.  Check the diff tags and see if they're still there.  They are metal tags that are bolted to the diff cover.  They should have something like 3 73, 4 11, 3 54, etc.  4.10/4.11's should be a nice gain with 31's.

well im going to 33s but just for wheelin.  im gonna keep the 31s and stock rims for street use.  EVENTUALLY i wont need street tires since this will be a trail-only rig when i get my wife a new car

Well check out the Gearing chart in the FAQ for a better idea if what gears to get.

well that chart answerd my first question

Why didnt it come up when i searced for "stock gears"?

oh well

if i was paying for this stuff i would want 4.88 gears but i wont be keeping the 30/35 axles for long and this guy is swapping his and said i could have the old ones.  and since i have stock gears and no lockers,now i can have some fun until i go for an axle swap and some 36 or 37's

The way you're doing it, swapping complete axles it the better way of regearing on the cheap since stock axles are fairly common.  Not to mention a lot cheaper then to regear.

I GOT A 2001 DANA 35 WITH 4:10'S SITTING IN MY BACK YARD I SWAPPED IT FOR ANOTHER 35 WITH AN ARB IN IT. I WAS GONNA KEEP THE AXLES THOUGH IN CASE OF BREAKAGE.
