OMG! I hate squeaks in my Jeep.
I have one that only happens when I take it offroad that is right behind the dash between the window and steering  wheel. Then I have my spreader bars that don't have covers on them and the wind makes them squeak against the foam and the ONE that I was able to pin point and fix was the Dash pad on the right side of the glove box (little cubby hole). I fixed it by stuffing a paper towel between the dash pad and the glove box. I know that's getto but it works and I stuffed it down in there so far you can't see what it is anyways. I HATE SQUEAKS. It's like chinese water torture.

jwrape, I've got the same squeak behind my steering wheel too.  Must have been a special option that I didn't know about on '92 and '93s.  I've tried tracing it without any luck.  Usually happens when driving slow over rough terrain that causes the jeep to flex a little.  I know it's not the steering shaft because I've recently had it off and freed it up to slide in and out without binding.  If you find it before I do, let me know and I'll do the same.

It is a high pitch squeak?  How loud is it?  Can you hear it from outside? Does it really start squeaking when you lock the steering wheel in one direction?

I'd check the serpentine belt for starters.

You do know there is a screw for the dash pad.  The lower one is a bit tight to get to but it will quiet the squeaking down.  BTDT.

Are you talking about my squeak behind the dash on the driverside or the squeak on the side of the dash pad on the passenger side?

Either.  There are two sheet metal screws on the lower part of teh dash pad.  They're kind of hidden behind the plastic.  When those loosen up, they squeak.
