Topic: ? about 32s or 33s with 411s

Anybody runn'in 32s or 33s with there stock 4.11's (Hows it work'in for ya)  been runn'in on 31 KO's A/T tires since last yr, and they did really well with my 2.4, NV1500 5 speed, and 4.11s. Yeah the funds dont warrent the gear swap yet, but would like to go with a little bigger size tire untill i can rig up an 8.8 with 4.88s

I'm runnin 33's w/a 2.5 and 411's.. Havent used 5th gear since I put the 33's on.. My jeep isn't a DD and when I go wheelin away from home I trailer it.. If you run yours down the highway save ur coins and try to do the re-gear soon after if not at the same time as your tire upgrade.... I'm regearing mine come wintertime...

Yeah thanks man, maybee i'll just go with 32s instead of 33s, because were only talk'in an inch more of tire with 32s. East Coast Gear Supply (ECGS) has an 8.8 bolt in for the tj for $675., i believe you only need the ring and pinion, and they have that to. Only have a payment or two left to pay my jeep off, so now i plan to building my tj up bigtime.

I drove for about 5 years on 32's and 4.11's and it wasn't optimal but liveable.  At least it was livable when the national speed limit was 55MPH.  Now that it's 65's, I doubt it will cut it.  In town isn't bad but the Interstate will suck.  Honestly some decent 31's should get you through a large chunk of the trails out there.  If you're lucky you can find a friend of a friend who can do gears for $75-150 an axle and then buy the parts yourself.  Should be under $500 that way.

Yeah if i think about it, i do believe i recall just after i got my 31s installed, i noticed a difference when i applied the clutch, seems that i had to tach the motor up a little more to pull out. Maybee i'd just gotten used to it, because the tires that the 31s replaced, were the stockers. Probly wait now till i get an 8.8 with 4.88s ready, and just go with some 33s. Guess i'll stick with the 31s i spose

Here in The Netherlands it is quite flat so on freeways I still use the 5th gear. When I have to climb a bridge I have to downshift.
No big deal.
The most problems I get is on a trail: in low gear it is hard to "crawl". With just a light tap on the throttle, the car surges forward.
I am thinking of re-gearing to 4.56, maybe even 4.88 although the pinion of the 4.88 might get bit small/weak.

I here ya man, yeah i use my jeep as a DD and for work mostly, and i do have some rolly polly hills to attend with that slow me down quite a bit even with 31s. The guy cross the street from me has 32s on his tj which looks pritty cool to me, which is probly why want to put the cart before the horse, but guess i'll wait till i can round up an 8.8 with a better set of gears before i go any bigger than 31s.

4:10s and 31s is livable.  Highway grades will probably have you dropping to at least 4th.

5th is OD not a passing gear.  You're not supposed to be in 5th on hills anyway.

if your going over 30 inch tires re-gearing is recommended..  if your willing to live with running 3-4 gear most of time it's your call. with 32's your going to be gearing down to 3-4 gear at the sight of any upward grade.

don't forget as well that light to light with bigger tires it's harder on the clutch or auto trans trying to get your vehicle rolling especially on upward grades..  like most said 31's are livable but I didn't like it pulling a trailer or anything or doing town driving were full constant stops are required.

if it's due to lack of funds well do what you got to do!!.

Yeah i guess i'd gottin use to the way my tj rolled on the 31s, did'nt think that an inch more of tire (32s) would make that much of a difference over 31s.

I drove with 31's and 4.88 for a while...  Now THAT was an awesome setup!  I now wish I had 5.13's (of course, I need new axles for that, so it's a no-go!).

I did it on stocks for a bit!! that was awesome!!

How about the pinion of a 4.88...wouldnt that get too small for the forces that it has to withstand?
Id like to keep my stock axles and regear to 4.88 but fear the weakness of the pinion...
