Losing My Nuts (Motor Mount)
« on: August 11, 2011, 01:13:02 AM »
While I was under the Jeep fixing a leak tonight I noticed the nut on the driver side motor mount had shifted. Didn't think it should be moving around so I checked the one on the passenger and saw that the nut was gone. I remembered I found this lost little nut months ago so I went to check it out. Not only did it fit, but I have this feeling it might very well be the nut I was looking for. Before I put it on I looked closer at the bolt sticking down and noticed that the bolt itself was working it's way into the metal. I put the nut on anyways for now since I gotta drive to work tomorrow.

My question is could this lead to a problem? I don't think the engine shifting a few millimeters is much to worry about, but I've gone bouncing around some trails (without that nut) since then and am worried if there might be damage that I have yet to find.

Which nut are you talking about.  The big one that holds the whole mount to the frame?  I don't think it's a big deal, if that's the case.  You're probably more likely to crack the aluminum mount that attaches to the block then the steel frame.

Yep, the big one you mentioned. A quick look with my tiny hand held flashlight didn't reveal a crack. It was about 1:30am and I was getting up 5:00am so I decided to just put a nut on it and check it today in the daylight. I'll take a decent look at it when I get home since I'll be picking up my e fan from the yard on my way home and will be playing with it tonight.

Correction before anyone notices (and thus ensuring everyone notices): 11:30 and that would be a pm

I don't think it will be an issue.  This is what commonly happens.  http://4bangerjp.com/forums/index.php/topic,2101.0.html  No damage though.
