optima side posts
« on: March 14, 2006, 12:08:44 PM »
sorry for the second post today but i cant find what i am looking for.  I have an optima yellow top and just put on some side terminals and hooked up the the jeep to those so i can run accessories and a winch (in the near future) off of the top posts.  when i went to turn the jeep on the battery guage on the dash showed the battery was really low, the jeep starts up just like normal and when it starts the guage jumps to normal.  is this something i should worry about?

The battery isn't fully charged.  That's not really a problem.  Once the engine starts the alternator kicks in and will produce +14v.

You're running off the side posts?  Like I said in the other optima thread, the side posts are not for heavy amp usage.  Starter/winch would be better off running off the top.

As for the side posts, do you have the terminal screw in stud in properly?

yes they are screwed all the way in.  I did some research and was under the impression that you could use the side posts for quick high output. such as starting but winching you would want to use the top posts.  i know i may need to switch back.  however why would it be reading so low?
