Yeah, it needs a Jeep and an owner with some free time.  :lol2:  Then it needs a rope, mount plate, maybe a Tuffy lock.  Have a remote on order.
Was looking at the silver Master pull synthetic rope at 3/8" x 100' for about $250...Not sure if thimble/Gunnebo hook is the way to go or what.

So, aka-Justin you know off-hand the steel thickness on that Harbor Freight mount?  Is it 1/4?"

Looks like most of the cheap ones are 3/16" thick.

I used the heck out of the winch of my yellow Jeep and the Harbor Freight winch plate never gave me any problems. As far as I am concerned it's as good as any other. What ever you do get a flat plate, no need to get one with a riser

Went ahead and order the HF mount, a hawse fairlead and a tuffy lock. Still looking at rope

did you test it at all? also, have a look at the brushes and winding on that motor.

It looks for the most part unused, just aged a little.  If the motor turns you're fine.  I wouldn't even bother cracking open the motor if it works.

The HF winch mount showed a few days ago, along with the hawse fairlead and a Tuffy bolt lock.  The HF mount seems pretty sturdy.

I did some Grade 8 bolt shopping yesterday and then got the winch temporarily mounted tonight.

I've got the stock bumper on my YJ.  With the winch mounted on the HF mount plate, the heads of the pair of front, underside bolts overlapped with the stock YJ bumper by about 1/4 inch -- not a big deal, just going to have to carve out the stock bumper a little in both spots to accommodate the 2 front bolt heads on the underside.  Time-being I have the winch held to the mount by the rear two bolts only.  But will probably make the time to carve the bumper in a couple of spots with (I guess) a dremel tool and inverter tomorrow night and finish the job.

Had to take off the tow hooks on the front to get the winch mount to fit, but no big deal at this point.  Can get them back on there, but will need to carve out the HF mount some more on both sides.

I've got some square nuts on order from this supplier called monsterfastener.com.  I bought "square nuts" at the Home Despot but they were thin and had to have been made out of recycled Spam cans; Orchard Supply Hardware didn't apparently sell squares, either.  I had also bought Grade 8 hex nuts but decided just to wait for the apparently stronger square nuts I ordered to show.

Ordered the Warn 3/8" x 100' Spydura rope, but until that shows, Winch is ropeless.  And, didn't have time today to even hook up the cables and remote and test out the winch a little.  So, tommorow  :gimp:

the bolts won't fit? that's the way my old winch was, had regular hex head bolts in on the winch side and nuts on the underside of the plate

Warns use a square nut on the bottom of the winch and bolts come up through the bottom.  I recommend using Grade 5 not 8 though.  That's the preferred/recommended fastener.

Jeffy, just read this page http://www.rockcrawler.com/techreports/fasteners/index.asp to see if could understand why Grade 5 would be preferable.  Is it a matter of the Grade 5 bolts potentially shearing sooner than grade 8 bolts, perhaps potentially saving the winch mount plate from deformation during too-heavy pulls?

Just guessing...last night   :beers:  Could use a cardboard gallon of coffee this morning...
