Great Jiffy Lube story!
« on: March 20, 2006, 07:15:33 PM »
First, I would never ever let another man change my oil, so this is a first.  I drive a company ford ranger all day for work.  I got the new 2005 ranger with 17000 on it(all put by me!)  Well, my boss tells me to get the oil changed during a 2 hr break i had, so I took it to jiffy lube since it was right next to where my next appt. was (I do pest control).  There was 5 or 6 20 year old punks working there.  One of the little bastards comes up to me holding my air filter.  There is oil and soot all over the bottom of it!!  He tried to sell me an air filter for 40 bucks, so I told him to screw.  As he walked away, I got a funny feelin and followd him back out to my truck.  I asked him to see my filter.  The oil and dust was on one side.  I opened the folds up and it was clean as a whistle.  It was on the dirty side of the filter, so i grabbed a clean rag and swabbed my airbox and inlet tube.  SPOTLESS!!  I looked at the group of em and said "which little one of you bo-yah! dipped this in shit??"  "Cmon, there is no way my filter would look like this and my airbox be clean!!"  After one of them ran into the back, the one who had "manager" on his shirt said "sir, that filter looked like that when it came in." I asked how.  no answer.  I called their customer service line right there and filed a complaint, then I walked right up to their shelf full of filters, grabbed the one that fit my truck, put it in, and told them to finish up now.   I watched them to make sure they did it right, then paid for my oil, not the filter, and left.  Not one of them said a single word to me the whole time.   MAN THAT FELT GREAT!!!  My adrenaline is still going like crazy!!!  I WAS PISSED!!

I hate those places.  They are paid to sell your air filters and flushes.  Most of teh people who write you up don't have much training.  The guy's in teh pits have more training and don't leave the pits usually.

You're luck if they fill the oil all the way and it stays there.  They are prone to leaving loose or out all together the drain plug.  On a few occasions I've heard of them closing hoods on cars with the shorty hood strut and proceed to bending the hood over.  I've seen them put tranny flush in an engine block which needed to be reflushed.  No one told the owner though.

I highly recommend getting an oil change done at an service station.  Even tire places to better work.  They're not paid to rush.

I took my Jeep to a Jiffy Lube for an inspection sticker and the dumbass that moved it out drove over a curb while everyone laughs.  WTF is that?  I chewed out the asshole who did it.  The managers excuse was that they sometimes do that.  I'm like WTF you drive over a curb with your customers vehicle.  The curb wasn't that tall but it was the principle of the thing.  I was pissed but never called the office which I should have.

when i need my oil changed i go to wherever i have a coupon for.  I'll never pay more than $14 for a crappy oil change with crappy oil and crappy filter.

i watch them and make sure they are doing what they are supposed to.  never had a problem.. it's nice to have your oil changed and NOT have to change clothes and shower afterwards...

-Erik <--- also likes the fact that they grease everything, saves me $5

I do all my own oil changes and don't leave it up to some teenager.  I've only had the Dealer to a few initial oil changes since I bought the Jeep new.  I run synthetic and I can get it cheaper and change the oil at my leasure.  I've got a Fram oil wang (*technical term) on my Jeep which takes longer to drain but allows me to drain the oil straight into containers  The oil filter is the only potential oil spil.

Jeeps tall enough to where it's not really a big deal to change it.

hmm, I like the idea of this Fram "wang" thing, but I'm afraid to google it.

I have the oil pan that you just screw the top on and unsrew the bottle top like cap on side to pour into the old bottles. works like a charm and I dont have any spill as long as I place it in right spot for plug then filter. I think it cost me 3.99

I actually took my Jeep to Wal-Mart in Virginia right after I bought it as my father said they were okay.

There they had all guys no younger than 55 years old....really knew their crap....treated me great and didn't try and sell me anything.

I'm sure that was the rare exception....I'll be doing it myself now that I have the Jeep at home in Michigan.

Ok, I looked it up for you.  I'm not sure if Fran still makes them.  It doesn't drain superfast but it's 100x cleaner and no oil pan needed.  I use a funnel with the oil filter and let it drain into a 2L soda bottle. I should do a quick review of it since I have picts from teh last time I used it.
