Topic: Sound bar question

So I found a 99 jeep in the salvage yard with an intact sound bar with speakers. Looks nice and all but I did see that it bolts directly to the roll bar above my head. I was wondering if I could take the sound bar out of the 99 and put it in my 92 successfully without modification.

not sure if it will fit, I had one exactly above my head when i bought the Jeep and was really annoying to be honest, only thing that was good about it was the light, it went in the dumpster real fast (speakers sucked anyway), i would pass and look for the speaker boxes that go between the wheelwell and the rollbar (i found a pair of those at the j/y and it's 1000 times better).

I found a set for behind the backseat that give a trunk type area with two speakers aimed towards the seat. What do you think of that?

But mine will hold at least a 5 1/4 Speaker and Mine in the back dropes down in the are between the back of the jeep and wheel well.  Storage and speaker mount.

dunno, never used one of those, i would think would work well for sub(s)

I researched quite a bit when i got those pods, were the only ones that were ready made and not take a lot of room (they go in that unused area), with the small Jeep storage any inch counts (at least in my case without a roof rack).

the ones i have are the same as these http://www.quadratec.com/products/14031_5X_PG.htm, $20 at u-pull-it without speakers, got a pair at Best Buy and i didn't install the cover on them (sticks out too much).

I like the Pods but I don't care for rear-fill speakers.  I've always hated the sound bars.    IIRC, the YJ's sound bar is mounted in front of the main hoop while on the TJ, it's mounted behind.  I don't remember of the tube spacing is different but you will have to modify them to work.  You'll definitely need to figure out how ot mount it.  You'll probably have to drill some holes into the main tube.

This is Crutchfield doing a piece to cater to the jeep market.  But I think they have a point -- because of road noise, tire noise, if you're going open top (or soft top) you need an amplifier to power the speakers (not just a/the sub). 

Head units alone may have built in amp that'll give you maybe 20W for each of 4 speakers.  Each speaker -- particularly aftermarket -- is probably going to be able to handle 40-75+ Watts, though. 

Amplifier is definitely on my list of things to buy...

my Pioneer has a built in amp at 60w, you need an additional 12v wire and fuse to turn it on, a thicker ground and flip a switch on the back of the unit. It's got a road noise auto-level volume feature and increases the output based on the ambient noise, since i have a soft top that helps. Only thing i hate about the unit is that it doesn't have a USB or memory stick slot and it doesn't store the settings if you disconnect the battery, not sure if they got around that (storing settings) on the newer models but that is extremely annoying for me.

You might want to check and make sure you have a 12v constant power supply so it stores the memory. If both the 12v and Acc lines are hooked to the Acc power lines on a deck, you lose your presets etc.

that's what i meant, it loses the settings when i disconnect the battery (not when i take the key off) - it's still annoying.
