Torque App
« on: October 07, 2012, 08:34:40 PM »
Has anyone tried this out before?

I've been waiting to get a ScanGuage II again (sold it with my RV), so I can check my MPGs and what not. I thought, by now, I could pick one up cheaper the $150 than I orginally paid, but they still are commanding that 2 years later.

It seems like Torque, this phone app, is a less expensive alternative and makes sense, since I already have my phone window mounted for my music and GPS. The EM327 ODBII bluetooth adapter runs about $20, at most, and the software is only $5 in Google Play. Seems well worth to roll $25 on.

pretty cool, i like the b/tooth since you don't need a silly cable running over the dash.

Splurged $20 for the adapter and software. I'll let you know if it works at all. Seems a lot easier than the hassle I had plugging in all those PIDs for XGauges on my Scan Gauge II via the 4 button input :fitz: ooohhhh... check out the fun here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eByS3S6iiMY

The adapter arrived just in time for our trip to Big Bear Lake. It only took a minute to pair the EM327 to my phone and there were no instructions and the code is 1234. I selected the device in my vehicle profile for Torque, and instantly had read outs from the ECU. I added the MPG, MPG Avg, Speedometer, coolant temp, and GPS Altitude to my custom screen. The program stayed on the whole time and had no hiccups. It all kept in very close step with what was going on - for very little if any delay. Well worth a $20 investment. And as mozzman would say "kewl". No if I could tell the motor to stop drinking gas like Koolaid... oooohhhhh yeeaahhhh!!!!

Yep, that intake I have is all looks. Also, I had the A/C on driving city slow and it was 90 out. Still, not very good. JP Magazine had an air intake shoot-out a while back. Mine ranked ehhhhh... It needs a better separation of hot air under the hood and insulation from the engine heat. I'd like to install some louvers one day, but that'll be somewhere, over the rainbow.

you're better off with the stock airbox and tube that goes behind the grill.

is the software unlimited use for the $5? seems like a sweet app for only a $25 investment (especially since both my vehicles are now odb2 instead of pre odb and odb1)

It has no limitation that I noticed. It has the ability to have multiple vehicle profiles configured. It even let me pick the exact ODBII adapter in the vehicle profile - as the auto-detect didn't seem to work. Looks like it is just $5 per Google Account.  I don't know if the app works for ODBI though. It says that "... Torque is an OBD2 performance and diagnostic tool  ..."

If you think about how much computing power is really required, it's not surprising.  There used to be a tuner add-on for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance a while back.

I've wanted to get the REV app for the iPhone.  it basically does the same thing.  My problem is that all the cool features require OBDII and I'm stuck with OBDI.  Oh well.  One of these day I'll install a wide-band.

I've had terrible luck with this same app. It won't work with my 1997 Jeep, and the 1999 Subaru I'm using it on, it only works some of the time... I lose connection at random times if it does decide to work. Worst of all Torque freezes up my phone so bad I can't take calls after turning it on... If I power on Torque, I have to pull the battery to do anything else.. I bought two Chinese Bluetooth devices because I heard about build quality issues and both of them have spotty functionality and I'm pretty sure one doesn't work at all.

Total waste of the $70 I spent on the app, the dashboard cell phone holder and the bluetooth devices...
