Humvee C-Series Prototype Reveal at SEMA 2012

In just 30 days, we may have our first look at the Humvee C-Series Kit Car from AM General. AM General is reportedly planning on using the aftermarket accessory and car customization show as the site to reveal the civilian-oriented kit car that has been in the works all year.
We haven’t had confirmation from AM General or SEMA that the plan still stands, but the 2012 SEMA Show would make perfect sense – especially if AMG is able to team up with another major vendor (Tire manufacturer would be a good fit) to offer a vehicle prototype and the chance of some extra attention in exchange for a little booth space. - http://www.hummerguy.net/hummer-news/humvee-c-series-prototype-reveal-at-sema-2012

Phil Howell, editor of 4 Wheel Drive & Sport Utility Magazine says it's more then a rumor.  It's an Official Rumor!

they could have made it an unassembled kit for 1/2 the price or even less imo, possibly with less options or to pick what you want in the kit, would have appealed to a wider audience, at $56k there will be less willing i think.

Supposedly Rod Hall has already placed an order for multiple vehicles.  I think if it was completely un-assembled it would be a PITA for them to package and ship all the parts.  AM General still owns the assembly line.  I also think there is still a pretty good demand for these vehicles as a fleet vehicle which is probably why it's sold as a rolling chassis and engine.

Well, it's $60K WITHOUT engine...  Too much for an H1.  I think it MUUUUUCH more viable to just buy a surplus military HUMVEE.

Un the US, you can BUT and it's a big but...  You can only guy older HMMWV's.  I forgot when the ban happened but it was around the same time you could buy a Hummer from AM General.  I think it was the late 80's or early 90's.  After that they were chopped up as part of the de-mil process.  I think the last group was sold in 1999 and were ex-Marine vehicles.  Now the only ones that are sold are typically too damaged to be used and no DOT legal.  The ones that aren't too bad are rebuilt and put back into service.  There is a LONG list of them waiting to be rebuilt.

I wouldn't buy a used ex-mil anyway.  Most of the time they need a lot of work.  They aren't comfortable at all.  Like driving a tool shed full of tools.

No need to go that far...  You can register them here without much issues.  DOT does not apply here; as long as they have lights and brakes, you are good to go!

Like I said before any hummer that's driveable is being rebuilt and put back into service.  Most of the ones that were sold to civi's were from the National Guard or never left state-side.  Now, a lot of even the NG's are going abroad and aren't coming back.  More then likely they have been upgraded to M1114 UAH which means they are overloaded.  They would strip all of this before it would have been sold as scrap.  Anything resembling a rolling chassis would only be sold to a company and not a person.

The DOT legality only really signifies that it's a complete vehicle and not de-mil'ed.  When de-mil'ed, the Hummer can fit onto a wooden pallet.
