Cherokee motor mount trouble...
« on: August 09, 2013, 08:21:38 AM »
My motor mounts are shot, and I need new. But it seems the motor mounts on the Cherokee 2.5 liter are welded to the frame bracket. Anyone know where to get new? Brown dog lists mounts for the 2.5 liter, but they are bolt in, without the brackets. Atleast that's what it shows in the pictures...

it's strange to have the mount welded to the frame, i have no idea if all cherokees are the same but you can see a hole by where the weld is where probably you'd bolt on the brown dog mounts, you might have to cut the weld and sand down to get the bolt-on one in there.

Yeah, that's my plan. Cut it out, and mount Brown Dogs. Just wondering if anyone had seen this before. Probably the best solution I think.

Got any friends with a 4cyl XJ? Check their motor mounts out.
If not, look on CL for one and go check it out. Let the guy know what you are looking for so he's not thinking you are just a tire kicker.

On my buddy's, it's the same. But on another buddy's rig, they are bolted.

Have you tried calling brown dog?  They were very helpful when I got mine...

You have a 2.5 or 2.8.  They mount differently.  Brown dog mentions that the 2.8 mount to the Pylon.  Where the 2.5 says it mounts to the frame.

No, haven't tried calling them. Sent an email tho. I live in Norway, and can write english good, but I suck at talking english :P

@grumpygy Where did you find that? Have checked their website several times, but haven't seen that. 98 2.5 btw.

Edit: Found it now. So that means the pictures are generic, and I probably have nothing to worry about :P

That's not stock.  You can see the hole for the original mounts next to the weld.  Grind the weld off and clean the frame up and use OE mounts.

That's what I thought aswell. But why is the mounts on my buddys XJ the same? Anyone have a picture of the motor mounts on a 2.5 XJ wich doesn't look like this? Shouldn't be an european thing either, since my car is built in Toledo...

Grands (V8's) used a round mount.  The mount should be bolted on directly to the frame.  The one pictured above looks like a ZJ mount that someone used instead and it's welded to the bolt-on frame mount.

Omix-Ada owns all the OEM stuff from Jeep.  http://www.omix-ada.com/engine-mount-2-5l-84-01-jeep-cherokee-xj.html

Yeah, I agree on that, was thinking about that myself. Just doesn't make any sense that another 98 xj 2,5 is exactly the same. Transmission mounts are also different from the ones I find on US websites, including Omix-ada and Crown. Tranny mount also look like the ZJ motor mount :P

Gonna go with the brown dog mounts anyway, and find a way to make it work. Now I'm just curious about those mounts, and why they are different from what shows at Omix-Ada...

Update to this:

Have now replaced the motormounts, and with a little work I got the Brown Dog mounts to fit. A few problems tho... The passenger side bracket was a little different than the driver side. It had no holes in it, so had to drill a couple holes to get tit to fit. The new motor mounts was also a bit too narrow, but fixed that with some grommets. Had bad vibrations at first, but got better with time, and a new transmission mount. Decent now. Still not as good as original, but I'll cope.

The old mounts are the original for this car, atleast many of the 98 up has them over here. Original mounts are no longer in production...
