Driving a couple of supercars
« on: November 25, 2013, 12:17:31 PM »
When my wife asked me what I wanted for my 40th B-day, I answered that I wanted a super car, thinking I would never get it...  Well, that ingenious woman that I call my wife managed to make my gift a reality!

She gave me a trip to Las Vegas as a gift, and, included in the trip was a visit to Exotics Racing.  There, I was a bit torn between which car to drive, with the Lamborghini Aventador and the McLaren MP4-12C topping the list.  At the end, I decided on the McLaren simply because it is listed as a hair faster in the Top Gear Power Lap times, and, since this was an even shorter track, the McLaren would have the upper hand, because of better cornering.

Unfortunately for my wallet, when I got there, they had a special offer for driving the Aston Martin Vantage S, which, OF COURSE, I purchased.  This actually turned out to be a good thing, as I got to drive the track prior to getting my hands on the McLaren, which let me take even more advantage of the McLaren.  And, as it turned out, they also had a special offer for a ride along in a Corvette Z06 (drifting), which you can only do AFETR you have finished driving...  THAT I regret buying for the single reason that, when I looked at the lap times, I saw that the drift driver whooped me even while drifting...  Still, it was fun to do, though!

Anyway, I am uploading the videos to youtube, so keep posted for the videos to come up soon!

OK, I was going to upload the vids, but it seems now with the youtu.be address, the inserting of video has gotten a bit odd (at least for me!).

What's the URL?  There's usually a few different URL's but the old style is the easiest one to grab not the one that ends in 'be'.

Funny that until you passed that car you were slower in the Mclaren than the Aston Martin, you went about 1 sec quicker that lap and the next one you got another 3 tenths or so

very cool but goes by pretty darn quick (which is kind of the whole idea )

That's why I recommend getting more than one lap; the first 2 laps you are just getting used to the feel of the car.  And I think if that Audi R8 would not have been in the way, I could have probably hit a second faster on that lap or so...  I was VERY afraid as I pulled up behind him (we ARE talking about expensive vars here!).

As for it going fast, I really thought I was cheated out of some laps until I saw the video and counted them!  It goes by REALLY fast, and with the adrenaline rush, it's that much faster.  But the video really hepls, as I did not even know how fast I was going until I saw the videos (I actually felt slower in the McLaren, because the car feels less on the edge than the Aston).
