7-Slat Domination at Easter Jeep Safari

If you’re a hardcore off-road enthusiast than you’re probably well aware of what’s coming next week. The largest gathering of Jeeps and all things 4x4 is kicking off this weekend in the picturesque land of Moab, Utah. If you’ve never been to Moab, picture the real life backdrop of Wile E Coyote and the Roadrunner. The land is mysterious and features some of the gnarliest terrain in the world. Not surprising then that Jeep and Mopar always decide to bring out the big guns in Moab since 2002 by unveiling their latest and greatest in the off-road specific segment.

This year, they’re really going all out and will be unveiling six new off-road concepts at the 48th Annual Moab Easter jeep Safari. Jeep and Mopar will be unleashing their newest off-road concepts on the slick rock to show off their seven-slat heritage.

Since we know you can’t wait until the official unveiling to check out this year’s class of Jeep and Mopar off-road bruisers, we’re giving you a firsthand look at these off-road concepts that are built with one thing in mind, no frills off-road machines that can make it through tough and challenging trails.

Jeep Wrangler Level Red

This isn’t just some sticker package Jeep Wrangler; this thing is built to conquer the highest levels of difficulty on any off-road trail. This also happens to be the reason this Jeep Wrangler is called Level Red. Only the toughest trails can get the Level Red difficulty designation and since this Wrangler is mean to conquer it all, the guys at Jeep and Mopar have stuffed a set of Jeep Performance Parts Dana 44 crate axles front and rear as well as a Jeep Performance Parts 2-inch lift kit. As if that wasn’t enough, the Level Red Wrangler is also outfitted with 4.10:1 gears and even a Rock-Trac transfer case with a 4:1 low ranger that allows this concept to crawl through unforgiving trails without breaking a sweat.

Under the hood is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that has been fitted with a cold-air intake as well as a high-flow exhaust system. To back up the power of the Jeep Wrangler Level Red is a six-speed manual transmission that when paired with the Rock-Trac transfer case and the 4.10 gears, gives the Red Label a crawl ratio of 73:1.

The sleek Pitch Black exterior of Wrangler Level Red features a TorRed prototype graphic stripe that runs along the top of the hood near the bottom of the windshield and halfway down the body sides. A set of 10th Anniversary Rubicon front and rear bumpers gives the Jeep Wrangler Level Red concept adequate trail protection that’s perfect for navigating treacherous trails.

Since brute power and low gears aren’t all you need to build a solid trail rig, a set of 35-inch BFGoodrich Mud Terrain tires mounted on a unique set of prototype 17 x 8-inch beadlock-capable wheels that are accented with TorRed color on the beadlock ring.

You’ll also notice that the Jeep Wrangler Level Red concept has been modified with a Mopar half-door kit as well as a prototype Jeep Performance Parts tire carrier and rock rails. This concept has also been deemed worthy of Jeep’s “Badge of Honor”, which signifies that this Jeep has earned a coveted badge that are exclusive to Jeeps that have conquered any of more than 30 approved high-profile trails across the United States. The list of modifications also extends inside the Level Red concept with Tuscany Katzkin leather seats that feature sleek red stitching.



Jeep Wrangler MOJO

The Jeep Wrangler MOJO (the “OJ” in the name stands for “Orange Jeep”) is built for the off-road enthusiast who needs or wants an even tougher vehicle with the functionality to tackle the most extreme trails in the world. To make sure the Wrangler MOJO concept has what it takes to crawl around off-road, the guys at Jeep and Mopar have upgraded it with a Jeep Performance Parts 2-inch lift much like the Wrangler Level Red concept. The difference between the Wrangler MOJO concept and the Level Red are that the Wrangler MOJO features all the same off-road gear as the Level Red Concept but also features higher clearance fenders that allow it to ride on a set of 37-inch BFGoodrich Mud Terrain tires mounted on prototype beadlock wheels with Mopar Bronze on the beadlock rings. A set of shortened bumpers and a winch give the Wrangler MOJO concept the ability to conquer the toughest technical trails that Moab has to offer.

Although the Wrangler MOJO also features the same Dana 44 front and rear axles as well as a 4:1 Rock-Trac transfer case, it features a less aggressive crawl ratio of 59:1.

The Bright Orange body work of the Wrangler MOJO is protected by prototype Jeep Performance Parts “Shorty” bumpers and prototype flat-top fenders. The Mopar Rubicon X hood has a distinct look via prototype topographical graphics that contain bronze mapping accents and flow down to the side panels. Since the Wrangler MOJO is meant to crawl the most treacherous trails around, an under-bumper skid plate and a prototype Jeep Performance Parts winch give it the ability to come out of them unscathed. To keep rocks from reaching up and damaging the rockers, a set of Jeep Performance Parts rock rails are used to further protect Wrangler MOJO on extreme trails.

The Wrangler MOJO also features a set of Prototype LED headlamps and fog lamps help make night trips on the trail easier while a front and rear prototype two-tone half-door kit and a soft top further add to the open-air fun and freedom all Wrangler vehicles offer. A Badge of Honor plate is added to show the trails Wrangler MOJO has mastered, and a prototype Jeep Performance Parts tire carrier allows you to safely carry a full size spare tire even on the trail.

The no frills interior of Wrangler MOJO is perfect for the off-roader that isn’t afraid of a little dust or mud. The two-tone instrument panel and console complement black Katzkin seat covers and allow for simple cleaning. With the carpet removed, rugged all-weather floor mats shield the interior, and a Mopar sunbonnet and roll bar pads are trimmed in a Driftwood sand color, matching Wrangler MOJO’s overall appearance.



Jeep Wrangler Maximum Performance
The Jeep Wrangler Maximum Performance is the top of the line in off-road capabilities and features new Jeep Performance Parts-exclusive push-button electronic-locking Dana 60 axles front and rear that have been stuffed with 4.88 gears while a 4:1 Rock-Trac transfer case gives it a greater crawling ability to get through any obstacle in it’s path with its 70:1 crawl ratio. A prototype Jeep Performance Parts 4-inch lift kit gives enough room for a set of massive 37-inch BFGoodrich Mud Terrain tires mounted on prototype eight-lug beadlock wheels that feature accented Mopar Blue beadlock rings.

With tires this big you would think it would be almost impossible to mount a full size spare out back but the guys at Jeep and Mopar have given the Wrangler Maximum Performance a prototype tire carrier and even a 37-inch spare tire cover featuring the Jeep Performance Parts logo. The Wrangler Maximum Performance also sports the five Moab “Badge of Honor” badges signifying the tough technical trails it has conquered.

The Wrangler Maximum Performance concept also features a prototype Jeep Performance Parts Stinger front bumper that can handle whatever the terrain dishes out, especially when paired with a front bumper skid plate, Jeep Performance Parts Rubicon rock rails and a prototype flattop fender kit. A menacing Mopar black grille give this concept a meaner appearance while a prototype Jeep Performance Parts winch ensures it can go to the edges of the world and back. A set of prototype LED lights mounted to the top of the Jeep light up the night during night wheeling adventures while a prototype hood graphics package depicting the Moab landscape lets everyone know where this Jeep was designed to go.

The biggest thing that stands out from this Jeep concept is the bright Mopar Blue paint and this theme is also carried over inside via accents on the HVAC bezels and steering wheel. You’ll also find a set of Katzkin leather seats with embroidered Jeep logos featuring blue accent stitching. The interior is further enhanced with satin trim on the instrument panel, shift knob and HVAC controls, while the steering wheel spokes and dash grab handles are underscored in black for a cleaner overall appearance.

This is one Jeep that was really created for hard-core enthusiasts who don’t mind getting the occasional trail pinstripe.



Jeep Cherokee Adventurer
The Jeep Cherokee Adventurer concept delivers Trailhawk capability with added utility and cargo convenience for the trail. The Adventurer concept features a 48:1 crawl ratio as well as Jeep Performance Parts rock rails, a two-piece underbody skid plate, a front suspension skid plate, an oil tank skid plate and a two-piece fuel tank skid plate to keep large rocks from tearing up the Cherokee Adventurer concept on the trail. A set of Red tow hooks ensure the Cherokee can be recovered when the going gets tough.

The Cherokee Adventurere also features a tan paint scheme that is accented with the Trailhawk black hood decal. A prototype matte black Mopar roof basket rides on top, with a bungee net holding down cargo. Adding to the no-frills look is an aggressive set of BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires that are mounted on prototype 17-inch wheels that feature aluminum granite crystal and black pockets.

Inside, you’ll find a set of black Katzkin leather seats with perforated inserts. You’ll also notice the maize-embroidered Jeep logos and maize stitching on the leather-wrapped steering wheel, arm rest and shift boot. The HVAC bezels, instrument panel, steering wheel and door switch bezels are upgraded with tan inserts to match the exterior paint scheme. The Jeep Cargo Management System is displayed with a Trailhawk bag, and is joined by a location-appropriate prototype Moab off-road bag. Bright door sill guards with the Cherokee logo, all-weather mats and a cargo tray complete the interior list of Mopar accessories.



Jeep Cherokee Dakar
 
The Jeep Cherokee Dakar concept is the most extreme Cherokee ever. The Dakar concept’s wheel openings have been modified in order to accommodate larger 33-inch BFGoodrich Mud Terrain tires. Helping clear the larger tires is a prototype Jeep Performance Parts lift kit with additional suspension modifications help make it the most extreme Cherokee yet. A prototype set of wider fender flares with riveted bolts give a tougher appearance and also accommodate the wider track width. A prototype rear fascia allows for an aggressive departure angle to help it navigate technical trails. SInce the Cherokee Dakar is built with trail duties in mind, a 48:1 crawl ratio and an estimated approach and departure angles are 32 and 39 degrees, respectively give it the edge it needs to conquer difficult trails like no other vehicle in its class.


The Silver Steel Satin Gloss exterior skin is set off with prototype Flame Red graphics that encircle the window and wrap around the black hood graphic. The Trailhawk 17-inch polished Satin clear coat wheels feature two large Flame Red pockets, with the Cherokee nameplate also changed to a Flame Red hue.

The Cherokee Dakar’s front-end features are enhanced by two prototype Flame Red inserts on the traditional Jeep seven-slot grille, as well as through a prototype lower fascia trim. The Cherokee Dakar is also beefed up for off-road action, equipped with Jeep Performance Parts rock rails, an oil pan skid plate, front suspension skid plate, two-piece fuel tank and underbody skid plates to keep it from succumbing to large boulders and rocks on the trail.

Inside The Cherokee Dakar concept you’ll find prototype Katzkin black leather seats with “Machined Gunmetal” inserts that are heightened with Header Red stitching, which is also found on the steering wheel, armrest and shift boot. A Flame Red insert accents the entertainment center. On top of that you’ll also find a few accessories from the Mopar catalog inside which include all-weather floor mats, bright door-sill guards with the Cherokee logo, a cargo tray for storage, and the JCMS with the Trailhawk bag, as well as the prototype Moab off-road bag.



Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel Trail Warrior

The Trail Rated Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel Trail Warrior sits higher thanks to its Quadra-Lift air suspension to help keep the body away from rocks and other trail obstacles. A prototype set of 20-inch cast aluminum wheels in Satin black wrapped in aggressive BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires help the Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel Trail Warrior get the traction it needs in the dirt while a 44:1 crawl ratio ensures it can climb up and over steep large boulders and rocks on the trail. A set of Jeep Performance Parts tow hooks and rock rails keep five the Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel Trail Warrior adequate trail protection while also offering solid recovery points if need be.

The Mojave Sand exterior color is topped off with Satin Black flourishes on the grille, hood, lower front fascia, door handles, mirror caps, wheel flares and badging while a prototype Mopar roof basket, mounted on production cross rails, provides plenty of space to transport gear and provisions for outdoor excursions.

The Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel Trail Warrior’s interior offers a black-and-tan dual tone scheme with gloss black accents on the HVAC bezels, steering wheel and instrument panel. Additional Mopar accessories include all-weather floor mats, door-sills, lighted Jeep logo sills, a pedal kit and a cargo tray.

as much as i don't like the new Cherokee i really dig how the Dakar looks, real nice.

The JKs look really good.
One thing I've started to notice is how JK's all seem to like alike.  They're all big and even though they may be painted different colors, they don't seem as individualized as Jeep of the past.  Maybe I'm just getting old.  :confused:

as much as i don't like the new Cherokee i really dig how the Dakar looks, real nice.
I think it's kinda strange/interesting that it looks beefier then the Grand Cherokee.

It does, doesn't it?  I really like how this version looks...

I'd really like to see Mopar Perfromance come out with the complete kit.  33's aren't even really big anymore.  Every lifted JK seems to run a minimum of 37".  I'm gonna guess the tires on the Cherokee are LT255/85R16/E's

We drive 'em and here's what we think

A few days ago we gave you the lowdown on the six vehicles that Jeep and Mopar planned to unveil at the 48th Annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. The six vehicles included the Jeep Wrangler Level Red, Jeep Wrangler MOJO, Jeep Wrangler Maximum Performance, Jeep Cherokee Adventurer, Jeep Cherokee Dakar, and Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel Trail Warrior. You can read the details of each vehicle HERE in the previous story.

Well, we’re here in Moab, Utah, at this very moment. The concept Jeeps have been officially unveiled, we’ve officially driven ‘em, and we have officially formed opinions. Officially. Who is “we?” Well, that would be staffers from various off-road outlets within the Source Interlink Media Off-Road Group family.

This year, for better or worse, custom one-off rigs like Mighty FC and Nukizer weren’t in the lineup. Instead, Jeep and Mopar chose to put the spotlight on rigs that feature production and prototype Jeep Performance Parts on these concept vehicles. Jp Magazine Brand Manager Pete Trasborg weighed in on that. “Overall I was bummed to not see some retrotastic concept vehicles, but if some of the new parts we saw today become available, fall might find me in a Jeep dealership looking for parts,” he said.

So what did we think of this year’s collection of Jeep and Mopar concept vehicles? Well, a few of us here put together our thoughts in a couple sentences or less. What do you think of these rigs from Jeep and Mopar?

Jeep Wrangler Level Red

    “Looks great, without relying on frou. I like this rig because it’s refreshingly simple both visually and technically.”
  • Christian Hazel, Four Wheeler brand manager:
    “Squishy ride is good. Stripey color treatment down to seatbelts is interesting. Beadlocks are good and hopefully make it to production.”
  • Agustin Jimenez, staff editor:
    “The FOX shocks are smoother than butter. The six-speed manual and half-doors make it a blast to wheel. It made it through Pritchett Canyon - a trail known for some serious pucker factor.”
  • Verne Simons, staff editor:
    “This thing rides great with its Jeep Performance Parts 2-inch lift kit. I want this lift for my two-door JK...the same suspension felt too soft on the four-door. The beadlocks are pretty cool too, but again I wonder if we'll ever see them outside of a concept vehicle.”

    “This 2-inch lift felt a lot better both slow and fast than MOJO… maybe MOJO’s bumps were too long? Fun rig both slow and fast.”

    “It’s orange, has 37-inch tires and says ‘Look at me!’ but the half-doors and bikini top say, ‘Chick Magnet!’ Perfect summer wheeling rig.””

    “My personal favorite, I love the orange paint and the prototype high-clearance flares (also on Maximum Performance). They are awesome (if not 7 years late) and should be made from flexible plastic instead of shatter-happy carbon fiber.”

    “At only 2 inches of lift, it's 2 inches shorter than Max, but for some reason the ride was rougher on high-speed stuff. With the same spring rates and shock valving as Max, it doesn’t make sense.”
