1.7 rocker arms (possible cheap power)
« on: April 08, 2006, 01:39:39 PM »
I saw a thread somewhere about AMC V8 engines using 1.7 rocker arms. Does anybody know if they will work on the 2.5L (1.6 ratio) ??? Either  Hesco or Cliffords offer them (can't remember which) but the price is $400.00. If they will work out of a junkyard V8 it might give us a little more performance for very little money, speak up if you know anything.

TeraYello makes 1.7:1 ratop roller rockers.  I posted about it a few weeks ago.

I'm wondering if used parts from a junkyard V8 could be used. I'm not interested in spending the amount of money everybody wants for roller rockers. I don't think the gain would be worth the expense if you had to buy new roller rockers, you can buy a complete cam kit for less and would surely get much more bang for the buck. I would also be wary of running roller rockers on a dailey driver, maybe they would be fine I don't know.

I was trying to research that idea, moving has gotten in the way though. After tons of looking on the internet, I decided the best thing to do would be get a rocker off of an old 70's AMC v8 and see how it compares to one off of a '95 4 banger.  If what I've heard is true, they should be interchangeable, which means that 8 cheap stamped steel new AMC v8 rockers should be a cheap alternative to the expensive AMC v8 roller rockers that are available if all you want is a little extra lift.  I am going to get back on researching this after I get to Oregon.  If anyone has time to do the homework at a junkyard before I do though, please let us know! ;)
