Heater Core?
« on: April 14, 2006, 05:35:50 PM »
Does anyone know where I can find a write up on replacing the heater core and the related hoses. I seem to have a small leak in this system and would like to look into replacing it.

Haven't seen one before.  If you tell us what kind of Jeep you have, we can probably help.

What is it leaking, water or coolant?

If it's water then it doens't have to be HVAC related.  If it's green or smells sweet then it's a sure sign of the heater core though.

it is a green liquid leaking from under the passenger dash and also from somewhere else onto the ground under the jeep.

Well, I'd first check the hoses on the firewall that go into the heater core.  Perhaps one is leaking and it's flowing into the ducting?

What you can do to test and see if it's teh heater core is to take a piece of metal pipe and slip it into the end of the heater lines so they connect together.  This will cut off the heater core and shoud stop the leaking.  Also, it's a poor many way of driving the vehicle without it leaking while they are too cheap to buy a new heater core.

I can get you some stuff on getting repairing the problem though.  Just give me a day.
