Topic: Tailight - problem when pressing the brake

Initially the rear lights, brake lights, reverse lights all worked - then the driver side started going off, then on again intermittently.

I assume this may be a grounding problem - since the mounting bolts for the tailight are screwed into bondo/fiberglass that looks like it was repaired by a previous owner.  

Anyone agree with that ?

Then, since the light housing was partially cracked anyway - I changed the whole thing out - now, when I put the light on, they work - but when you press the brake, the normal light fades to a low dimmer - and the reverse light comes on.

Can I assume that the grounding is ok and that either the wires have crossed, or the plug is bad and I have to rewire from some point in the cab to the rear light ?

Do they sell the complete wire kit that plugs up front to both taillights ?

I'd trace the wires back to where they connect to the main harness at the rear.  My guess would be that the wire harness goes from the firewall along the body then down into the rear wheelwell where it goes to the taillights.  Buying a new harness won't be cheap, I bet.  Dealer should have them.

I think if you know some basic electronics you should be able to trace your problem with a tester light ot a multimeter.
