Well here it goes. I have a 97 TJ bought it 2 years ago and I live in New York where the inspection of a vehicle takes an act of congress to pass. Here's my problem I went to get it inspected and was rejected due to  a manufacture error code. I took it to a friend who is fairly sharp with vehicles and he found that the engine and tranny are out of a 94 wrangler. He found a couple of plugs that weren't plugged in one being one from the side of the tranny. Believed to be from the valve body, he fixed that one and he found the motor ground not grounded, fixed that. He put his  computer on it and cleared the codes, drove it for like 50 - 60 miles to reset the computer. Well now the ck engine lights comes now that he replaced the bulb that was taken out and not by me. The computer error  is 1391 he seems to think it may have to do with the incorrect flywheel, or crank sensor, or cam sensor. ANY HELP HERE WOULD GREATLY  HELP ME. Any suggestions  from you full time Jeepsters. Thanks Hozer.

Well I have tried to fix and connect everything possible. Here is the dilemma. The Crank positioning sensor reads fine and ok at an idle, raise the rmps I am losing the cps and the error shows up. The flywheel is the correct one for the 97 wrangler. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem may be. Oh yes the cps is brand new. Thanks for any help.

Have you tried reading the CEL from the dash to get a number that's usable to diagnose from?

I'd guess just the block from a '94?  I'm gussing yes since your '97 should be ODBII  which the '94 is not.

Jeffy, I tried that if your talking about usin the key method. The only thing that flashes is code 12. That's the one that shows that the battery has been disconnected. Goin to try and have the ecm flashed at a dealership. Running out of options here with the thing. Thanks

I think ODBII scanners can reset the PCM so you can go to Auto Zone or other place and get it done.  Or else just buy a code reader.  :lol:

Well, got the Jeep back from the dealer who scanned the computer and they get the same error, the mechanic said he flashed the computer and it took the update. The only other thing I can think of is that there is a bad wire. Now becomes the tough part of finding the wire problem. Anyone have any easy solutions on that task.

The dealer I took it to  got the same results as my Buddy did. I wanted the dealer to make sure the computer was good , and they told me the computer was fine and it took an update "what ever the hell that meant". Well long and short of it I went to get my Jeep back no sense of paying them $ 75.00 to peel the wires apart. My buddy found that it was a frayed wire about 2" from where it goes into the computer. He fixed it and now the cps doesn't lose it's signal above idle. Nice, now I can go get the thing inspected and pop off the top and do some crusin. Thanks for all your help.

What they meant by taking an update was that they flashed the ROM with an updated version and it took the new update.  If something was wrong it would not take the update.

It's nice to follow this thread with a happy ending.  Chasing wires sucks!!  

Off the subject, but on the same topic, I had to do the same thing to a street light in front of my house.  Goodness...   I took weeks trying to figure it out up until I just dug out the old wires and re-started all new.

Glad to hear that you didn't have to go to extremes.
