Where is the best place to mount a hi-lift jack on a 95 yj? I don't like the hood mount, in front of the windshield. I have the loop step bumbers on the back with an original spare tire mount, grill guard on the front with driving lights mounted where the winch will one day go.

My current location is to break the jack down and stuff the foot plate, handle, ladder beam and top piece into the front crossmember.  I use the foot plate and the top peice to lock it all into place.  It doesn't rattle.

Althought once it's put together it goes either on ym roof rack or in the back.  I've got to make a hard mount for it.

Other options, would be across the floor behind the driver seat.  Use U-bolts to the roll cage and secure the jack behind the rear seat.

If you ahve a dual tube bumper then you can use brackets and large bolts to clamp the jack between the tubes.

or else but a Hi-lift mount.  There are many options.  I'm not a fan of the hood or engine compartment mounts.

Here's a couple pics of mine. (2) 2.5" exhaust clamps, a small section of garage door track and a padlock (not pictured due to the toe on the top of my jack being broken) and it's good to go. Seen a write up for this somewhere that gave me the idea, but i forgot where. Only regret is not painting or powdercoating the hardware, which I am doing soon.

Well, I bought my hi-lift jack today, it was only $52 at Tractor Supply. Don't know why anyone would pay $70 on ebay and also pay outrageous shipping. I also bought the 2 1/2 " tailpipe clamps. Still got to go by the garage door shop and see if they have any spare door channel. Should have it mounted by Wednesday.

If you have a powder coat shop by you, I would test fit then get it done right away. I have to scrub some rust stains off my roll bar padding because I didn't. Post pics of it when it's mounted.

The cheaper FARM jacks are NOT as good as the true Hi-Lifts or Jackalls, there are a lighter rating (I believe) and the quality of parts are not as good.

Got my Hi-Lift at a Tractor Supply for $53.89.  Have found that if you google what your looking at on e-bay, you can find the same item at as much as $30.00 cheeper "and with free shipping"
Make sure there is genuine Hi-Lift paper work with it. There is a lot of cheap fakes out there for sure.

It is a HL-605  rated load is 4660 # and tested load is 7000 # ; 5000# winching.

I've got mine mounted like Jesse-James and Dare2BSquare, can't beat that location.  Always clean, quick and easy to get to (with wingnuts).

 Always have a wheel off already when others are still piddling with removing thier hilift and lubing it to get it to work because it was mounted outside the jeep.

Nothing wrong with the cheap farmjacks, they run about $30 or $35 at the farm stores around here.  Truckload sales are also good for 'em.

That's an interesting Jeep.  The Rio Grande would make it a 1995.  Probably a true 95' since it doesn't have TJ windshield bumpers.  Can't see the rear hinge well enough to tell if it's cast or not.  Those wheels though.  Those are old school.  70-80's.  I think the last time I saw those wheels was on a 80's YJ and XJ/MJ.  Nice to see someone with retro wheels rather then black steelies once in a while.

Oh and while we're on wheels and tires, you might want to get a real spare.  If you're in the boonies and do end up with a flat, that Poly spare will be of little use.  ALthough, I've got a matching one in my shed if you're interested. :lol:

Yeah, the spare is on my list. It's so dry here right now that even going to the hunt club is like driving on asphalt. East Arkansas farm land is so flat that you could see for about 20 miles if there weren't any trees, and there aren't many! Got to get that done before fall and hunting season.
I believe those wheels are off of late 80's to early 90's xj. Some dude told me the other day that they look like they came off of The General Lee.
